Thank you for four wonderful days of music, so glad I was able to tune in via live-stream from afar // I cherish my experiences, friendships, and time spent at Mills College and the Music Department as a grad student and administrator, and thank those faculty and colleagues, who have been such an inspiration and support, in my life and music journey #millsalumnae #contemporarymusic #experimentalmusic #bayareamusic

It begins today…
Music in the Fault Zone
Before the events of this festival begin, the Music Department at Mills College acknowledges the Chochenyo-speaking Ohlone tribal group as the original inhabitants and stewards of Xučyun, the ancestral and unceded land on which Mills College was built. It is our responsibility as members of the Mills College and Oakland communities to understand how we benefit from the occupation of this land and to understand the great importance this land has to the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe. While we recognize their past, we also celebrate their current vibrant presence in the Bay Area. We have a responsibility, as an institution and as individuals, to work towards healing the effects of colonization for a sustainable future. We thank and stand in solidarity with the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe
In light of the news in March 2021 that Mills College would cease to exist as a degree-granting institution, the Music Department imagined a festival that would celebrate the unparalleled, cutting-edge, and pioneering music that has defined a legacy of experimentalism. We invite you to come celebrate this legacy today and through the end of the weekend!
It is important to mention that this festival lineup is the tip of the iceberg with regard to the amount of amazing people and music reflecting the unique musical legacy here. Music in the Fault Zone aims to celebrate every individual who has walked through the doors of the Music Building. Past and present, every student, event staff member, every faculty member, and every visiting artist/lecturer are being celebrated at this festival.
