I did not take many pictures of the flooding around Asheville, but this is the bottom of my street on the day the hurricane hit. We live up on top of a hill, and this video is right down at the bottom where a normally tiny creek runs alongside the road.
Everyone in my family was safe and though we lost a few trees, none did any serious damage to our house. Steve quickly set up a rainwater collection system and rigged up a solar powered fridge using the car battery from his next Land Rover restoration project. We also had some drinking water stored and had wonderful neighbors and friends who brought more from their runs to other cities for supplies.
Conveniently, we already had a trip to Oregon planned from October 2nd and our flight actually left as scheduled. So we are now on the west coast for a little while.
I am so sad for everyone who has lost homes, businesses, and loved ones in this flood. We are very lucky and I am so grateful for our friends and family all over the world who have been checking on us. And I am proud of our community in Asheville— what strong, caring, and resourceful people we live among!

13 years married to this guy! Celebrated with a great weekend, including 1) eating a lobster roll 2) seeing First Aid Kit in the pouring rain with one of my oldest friends 3) Large Fry losing her second front tooth 4) a beautiful day at the pool on the last day before it closes 5) stopping on the side of a busy road to play under this amazing rainbow. Also, we saw a groundhog there (not pictured). Fun times with my favorite people ❤️❤️❤️
