In love with the portrait from our short story with @hannnah.mcneil @amanagementde on a beautiful beach on the Costa Brava coastline. I shot this one without the water first and then felt it was too perfect to be good and then we spinkled some water on her face to break the perfection. styling @birgitschlotterbeck @liganord_agency hair & makeup @melanie.hoppe @kultartists digital assistant @corinne.wenger production @yours.production postproduction @retush.agency #costabrava #fashioneditorial #beach #modelsdotcom

A year ago, I was losing multiple clients for the first time in my career as a photographer. Not just one or two but basically 40% of my revenue. Why? Because the game has changed. I was basically loosing them all to changes caused by the fundamental shift towards social media. One client hired an in-house photographer for social only and suddenly he shot the campaigns too. Another cut the campaign budget just to fund content for social. And then there’s AI… making us all question what’s next. So I had a choice: love it, leave it, or change (it). I wasn’t ready to leave. I couldn’t change the industry. So I decided to love it. For the past months I’ve been turning my business and the whole way I work upside down - and I’m still not finished. But I will start sharing the journey with you - the why’s and the how’s. - I acknowledged that I, too have to entertain with everything I create - I now shoot everything Social First!, print second - I became a director and DOP and taught myself cutting and grading - I scaled my work so I can collaborate across many budgets. 12 months later — I have more clients than ever and I love my job more than ever. Because Social First isn’t a limitation. It’s an opportunity to push creativity and tell bigger stories. I’m looking forward to continuing the story and sharing the results with you. When I share my journey, I get mixed feedback - it makes some people even sad or mad. What do you think - do we all have to be Social First? model @franziskaspagl @modelwerk photo @stephanglathe @boschtobanrap Make up and hair @kerstinhajdu @uschirabeagency assistant @studionicolegross postproduction @parkstudio agent @lottekratzer @boschtobanrap

Working with Victor in my home town for my oldest client was amazing. I think sometime shooting where you grew up is the hardest, because you are used to everything. Rediscovering my home town with a model like Victor for one of my oldest clients was a creative challenge that turned out to be a lot of fun. Especially in the mix with a modern look at the classic shoes my client invented that are now copied by all the major brands. photo @stephanglathe female model @emilierosenlund @amanagementde male model @j.totor @kultmodels stylist @susibauer._ @uschirabeagency make up & hair @kerstinhajdu @uschirabeagency digitalassistent @tina__just social media @altomare.design photo assistants @jojohartigm @studionicolegross

4 campaigns in 2 days - crazy! If you’ve been following my Social First! posts you already know that I’ve changed my whole approach to photo shoots lately. Instead of shooting the same story for 2 days, I’m now shooting 4 much shorter stories in 2 days. The grid with 12 pictures is actually what we shot in the morning and in the afternoon we shot a different story. This way, my clients can entertain their audience much better over a longer period of time. Each drop lasts about a month, so it’s 4 months worth of interesting content produced in 2 days. It requires a lot of prep, but the actual shoots are almost easier. For example, location scouting for 6-8 outfits is a lot easier than for 12-15 outfits. Lookbook shoots are hard to use on instagram - unless they are part of an integrated concept. This feed used 4 different shoots that are all part of the same communication strategy. The lookbook with 2 different models was shot 12 months ago before sell in. During the shoot, we made sure that for each look, there were also images that are more storytelling and visually interesting than the product focused lookbook images. Then, half a year later during the lookbook shoot for spring/summer 26, we shot a couple of studio images with a third model on the side to break up the feed. Lastly, we added a half day content shoot in Barcelona 3 months ago to add more story telling into the feed. The color palette of the backgrounds in the city was based on the lookbook background and grading. So with very little extra spend, we went from content that would not entertain for 180 days to a visually entertaining feed. Being on Social Media is hard - for most of us. When I talk to people on set, hardly anyone likes putting their work - or their personal life on Instagram. Yet everyone agrees that it’s part of the job and that’s why they do it. Funny enough, most of us - including the models - are really introverts, so showing your work and your life doesn’t come natural. For me, the hardest part is still the act of POSTING. I love every part of my job from prep to post - I don’t even consider what I do „working“ most of the time. But putting the work out on social media is where your work will get judged. Going „Social First!“ increased the pressure to actually accept statistics in the form of „likes and views“ as a measurement for the quality of the work and it’s relevance. So now, in addition to the artistic quality, it also needs to converge. That changed the game for me one more time. How do you feel about putting your work out there? Do you think likes and views are a good measurement of our relevance as artists in the fashion space? Most models underestimate what they can do for them team spirit. Recently I had an interesting talk with the head of a modeling agency. He pointed out that some models have the ability to bring out the best in the team. Working with @franzi_stegemann last week reminded me of that - while the team was already great, her attitude on set made it easy for everyone to bring their best game. The images will come out next year, so we will all have to wait These images here were taken a while ago when I was playing with the idea of Social First! and how that would look for a mix of beauty and hair. SOCIAL FIRST! means putting in the WORK to GET the ATTENTION. If your post doesn’t get the attention you wanted, maybe it’s because it’s not RELEVANT to your crowd. We’re in the creative industry - so we need to share stuff that inspires others. That’s why the algorithm favors stuff that is being saved and shared. Ask yourself if what you’ve posted is worth being saved. If everybody has already done it, it’s not news, so it’s not relevant, it won’t be SAVED. ATTENTION is the CURRENCY in the digital age. Do the work to come up with ways to get it and to keep it. So before you set out to put one more girl in a black high fashion outfit in front of a textured wall, ask yourself if that’s going to be a groundbreaking innovation or just a repetition of a trend. Think about it - if you’re just doing what everybody else does, you’re not giving art buyers a reason to change who they’re working with. Do the work, combine your inspiration in new and interesting ways. What about you - do you love or hate this „attention challenge“?
