As I approach my first year of motherhood, I’ve found myself reflecting deeply on my career, identity, and the direction my life is taking. Like many women, I’ve experienced moments of feeling somewhat invisible professionally — a feeling that took time to acknowledge and eventually accept. At the same time, I know that my most important role right now is to be the best mother and human I can be for my son, Arlo, especially during these early formative years of his life.
Through this transition, I’ve become increasingly interested in exploring motherhood within our industry — particularly the emotional and professional sacrifices many women make when stepping away from their careers to take on the immense, often unseen work of motherhood.
Over the coming months, I’ll be developing a personal photographic project centred around mothers and mothers-to-be working within the creative and fashion industries. My intention is to create a body of work that feels honest, intimate, unfiltered, and beautiful — documenting the complexities of this experience in a way that is both personal and universal.
I’ll be speaking with women about identity, ambition, change, loss, growth, exhaustion, and joy — and how motherhood reshapes not only our personal lives, but also our place within an industry that so often prioritises visibility and momentum.
If you are a mother or expecting a child and work within the industry, I would love to hear from you. I’m looking for women who would be open to being photographed and, if comfortable, sharing a few words about their experience. Most portraits will be created within my studio, though in some cases I may also photograph subjects within their own environments to capture a greater sense of intimacy and reality.
Motherhood has been one of the most magnificent and challenging experiences of my life so far. I’m still learning how to navigate this new chapter — sometimes gracefully, sometimes not at all — but through it I’ve discovered new depths within myself, and a profound understanding of what women carry, sacrifice, and become.
