I visited artist Jess Blandford in her beautiful, light-filled studio in Beckenham Place Mansion, a grand Georgian house set within the rolling landscape of Beckenham Place Park. We talked about her work and what drives her to paint, an exploration of the invisible, unpaid labour that holds family life together. Jess’s practice brings attention to the small, repetitive, often overlooked acts that underpin domestic life—messy, complex, essential, and rarely considered the subject of fine art. Through repetition, layered colour, fragments and erasures, her paintings hold traces of these everyday acts of care—capturing both their weight and their quiet significance. Jess is a resident artist at Beckenham Place Mansion and a founding member of FOLD Art Collective. She is represented by Kittoe Contemporary.
