I documented the last days of my 14-year-old cousin Goldie’s Missouri summer. It was the last one before she started high school. She had saved up her babysitting money to buy a 2010 camera and her dad’s old iPhone, started a YouTube channel and was finally allowed to download TikTok (haha). She starting making these compelling “Day in the Life” YouTube videos, and I couldn’t stop thinking about what it must actually be like to be living through such a confusing age, during one of the most confusing summers in America. And yet, she was suddenly able to experience and attempt to process it (while still finding moments of joy) along with her peers from around the country. I had so much fun making this with Goldie, and I cannot recommend her YouTube channel enough, Goldie Evelyn where she has 41 very loyal subscribers. Thanks to her mom @rosie_winstead , and to Ralph and Margot for their guest appearances. Thank you @ian.keiser for your sound help, so grateful. Obviously I still have a lot to learn, but hoping to keep experimenting with video, loved working on this.

Turning 13, my new short film, coming very soon! Margot contemplates what it means to grow up in the two days before her 13th birthday. Cast my cousins and neighbors and filmed in my favorites homes, alleyways, and stocktank swimming pools during the hottest days of an Ozarks summer. This project is one of my favorites.
