As we start our 3rd documentary together, it’s been life affirming to see the transformational quality in @atorrescrespo n’ I’s approach to filmmaking that has taken shape. A two-fold exchange with our subjects as we find common ground to share as we learn about one another & the intentions that have brought us together.
For my self as a Gringo documenting peoples’ lives in Latin America, the necessity for being welcomed into these worlds is paramount. My presence is an obvious symbol of the American Capitalism that has ravaged these lands & their lives. I don’t take it as a burden that I need to prove my intentions & trustworthiness, but rather a privilege that I get the opportunity to show them not all Gringos are cut from the same cloth.
Especially amongst the chaos that America has been fostering & exporting since its inception, I’m grateful to be wildly outside of my comfort zone as a minority in these worlds building bridges towards profound intimacy ~
