As a part of The Vault’s inaugural season SATE (Detroit: Music of the Motor City) and the Polaris Music Prize brought an intimate, one-night experience to The Vault—an offering so resonant it returns as a four-night run directed by Djanet Sears (Harlem Duet). The Listening is not a traditional concert but a living ritual—an intimate weaving of music, movement, story, and unfiltered thought. Emerging from the creation of her debut theatrical work, the evening explores the threads between mothers and daughters, the living and the beyond, memory and myth—tracing the unseen lines that shape who we are and who we are becoming.

this story is pulling me. the characters are starting to tell their story. i’m learning how to listen to them. learning so much about storytelling. whew, and this mother wound story? each day i show up to the work i’m learning to simply surrender.
it’s not glamorous. it’s real. and i am really proud and excited to finish this and get it up onstage. it’s also teaching me patience, this will take time.

Warriors, Howlers & Fools, seems this month has been about honouring legends. I am deeply honoured to be a part of this celebration of yet another legendary Canadian band, ROUGH TRADE. This is a celebration of life and musical contribution of co-founder Kevan Staples who became an ancestor just this past March.
