Making moves on the new Miyata 1000 project! Playing with it and realized the water bottle bosses it had were vintage T. A.! You know what I just got a big lot of!? Vintage T. A. Water bottle bosses! So matchy matchy!
Added a set of bottle bosses to the seat tube and a third set under the down tube. I mean it is a touring bike after all. Also added one to the rear cable hanger and the the rear bridges! Making it easy to add a rear barrel adjuster and fenders!
Also respaced the rear end carefully to 130mm and aligned the rear derailleur hanger and drop outs.
Tool the old cantilever brake bosses off too! Last chance to decide if it's going to be 700c or 650b!!! Pretty sure I'm going 650b!!!!
Tomorrow we'll see!
Just a reminder I do this stuff for customers too! I'm fast too! It's not to late to get your bike in and done and off to powder coating and back and built before summer ridding season officially kicks off!
@bmxmuseumdotcom stoped in today with this rare really cool perfect patina 1983 SE that had been sitting in storage on the California coast for just about ever!
One of the front for ends was kinda wavy. A few squishes in my machines vice straightened it out.
He was also having a hard time getting the rear Phil Wood era correct wheel in. So we put it in the alignment table. Non drive rear stay was pushed in about 5mm. It took us a few tries but we got it pulled out and the rear end back to center and 110mm.
The headset wasn't exactly frozen, but close to it! It took a little doing but we got it apart and chipped the old grease out, and it actually wasn't all that worn in there. It's a cool weird tange headset even Gary wasn't familiar with! Some old Phil Wood grease to match the old Phil Wood parts going onto it!
It's going to be sick! The guys over at BMX bike museum. Com are already arguing about how it should be built!
Got something really special! It's up for grabs too!
57cm Miyata 1000!!! 55cm top tube.
I'm hoping someone wants this frame set and wants to pay me to do all the sweet modifications!
Lol, otherwise I'm going to do them anyway and just hang it in the shop.
This probably from the very early 80's. It originally had 27" wheels. My plan is to remove and replace the cantilever bosses moving them lower and wider... Either for 700c or 650b wheels.
And respace and align the rear triangle to accommodate 130mm road hubs, add bottle bosses in the bridges for fenders, Dynamo wiring guides, and pump peg on the chain stay. And it's only got one set of bottle bosses! Insane for a touring bike, so I'm going to add a second set to the seat tube, and a third set under the down tube. And a set of mid fork mounts for lowrider racks.
I already found a sweet set of reproduction decals on the eBay! Wouldn't this be sweet with a sparkling emerald green paint job a new decal set and a retro Suntour build or something!?!?
The cool dudes over at @joebike brought in this fork for a customer. Surly steamroller fixed gear getting the upright city bike treatment. It needs a front rack and basket so it needs rack mounts!
Sanded off the paint, picked rack mounts, cleaned them up and set them up with flux and my fancy jig. A single spoke and an old washer.
Silver brazed them on. A little hot water to wash away the flux and a little sand paper to clean them up.
Then a little black spray paint to keep the metal from rusting.
Final step was to run a tap through them to make sure there wouldn't be any problems installing the rack!
Dropped off at 10:30 am, finished and picked up at 1 pm!
Did you know I have a website with all my pricing on it?! Link in Bio!
Wild Sunday! Scored three bikes and a small pile of wheels!
I'm most excited about this crusty old Miyata 1000!!!! Late 70's or early 80's probably. I love a patina bike for a project! Maybe it needs some braze ons, moving the canti bosses down for 700c or 650b wheels! Respacing and aligning for 130mm hubs. I've always loved this bike and excited to get one to play with. I've done several of them over the years for customers, but it's been awhile!
57 seat tube with a 55 top tube!
Nice little motor bacon single speed flip bike and an old poopy MTB with the best shifters on it! It will be a parts bike! Maybe the shifters will go on the Miyata 1000 when it's done!
For sale!
58cm Novara randonee! Neer zero miles one owner never ridden bike! Classic randonneur fom the mid 80's, see the original stainless chain protector, ,that still has the original protective sticker! Made in Japan from tange 2 cro-mo tubes!
Vertical drop outs for great fender line! Frame respaced and aligned to 130mm for cassette road hubs. Fork aligned too. Dynamo wiring guides added to frame and fork. Threaded bosses added to bridges for easier fender installs.
I also added a seat stay mounted pump peg and replaced the rear brake cable stop with a threaded boss for a barrel adjuster.
The bike already has three sets of bottle bosses and lowrider bosses on the fork.
58cm seat tube. Nice short 56.5 top tube.
It clears easily a 700x38mm tire and would be great with 35mm tires and fenders.
Awesome 700c randonneur or sports touring bike! Ready for paint or powder coating and a new build!
$750 frame and fork only.
Spent the day finally getting around to the zero miles Novara project!
Respaced and aligned the rear end to 130mm.
Added threaded bosses to the Bridges for fenders.
Replaced the rear brake cable stop with a modified chunk of cantilever brake boss so that it can take a barrel adjuster!
Drilled holes and added a threaded boss on the non drive seat stay for Dynamo wiring and a rear tailight!
Drilled hole in the lower lug for Dynamo wiring.
Added a pump peg on the seat stay, and removed the stock one.
Added Dynamo wiring guides to the fork and aligned it too, as well as removing the lawyer lips.
I bought this bike from the original owner. He bought it new and never rode it. I sold the original parts because they were mint!
This frame takes 700c wheels. Will fit 38mm tires, and easily clears 700x35 and fenders!
It already has lowrider bosses three sets of water bottle bosses and fender eyes! Made in Japan with nice tubes!

I dimpled the seat stays to easily clear 650bx42mm tires, and room for fenders ! And tightly but clears 650bx47mm tires too.
Will just about clear a Velo Orange zeppelin fender with a little massaging.
Respaced and aligned the rear triangle to 130mm spacing. Drilled the lower lug and BB shell for internal Dynamo wiring. Added dyno wiring guides on the fork to match the cool offset vintage frame builder added top tube cable guides.
Added cantilever brake bosses front and rear for 650b wheels.
Added an m6 threaded boss into the rear brake bridge and an m5 threaded boss into the chanstay bridge.
Added mid fork mounts for lowrider.

$800 frame and fork. Rack not included but will part with it for $75.
Wheels and tires in the photos aren't for sale or included, but happy to work with you on getting something awesome built up for you!.
Finished getting the Bianchi back together and on the road again today! Caught the customer graming right off!
Bike had both seat stay tops cracked! Stripped to the frame, top of the seat stays cut off, rear triangle aligned and respaced to 130mm. New seat stay plugs installed and brazed in. Bike out back together with a few small changes.
The biggest one was removing the inner chainring and swapping the BB out for a sealed cartridge bearings Shimano unit.
The original Sugino bb was okay, but the cranks weren't. They'd been pressed on foe the last time. The spindles almost poked through the square taper!!!
But Sugino used their own tapers. So in a Shimano BB the cranks sat back 4 mm or so giving them one or maybe two more presses! Presses them on and took the crank bolts back out and they looked acceptable! Nice to save these very pretty Sugino AT cranks. The only other major change was a 32mm tire and a wider set of fenders to accommodate them. Lol, and the much longer seatpost that doesn't need to be run above the minimum height line!
Snuck in a little work on the vintage Trek 650b convention again today!
Rear cantis brazed on soaked and cleaned up. Fork aligned and added front cantilever brake bosses and mid fork rack mounts. Drilled the BB shell with a drain hole and Dynamo wiring hole. Drilled the underside of the lug for Dynamo wiring routing. Added a threaded boss to the chan stay bridge for fender mounting.
Forks in the soak. Probably add some Dynamo wiring guides to it too.
Video coming soon to my YouTube channel. Link in bio.
