at the start of this year I decided I wanted to focus more on making my own glazes, and creating a colour palette/signature set of glazes that’s reflective of Stable Hand. I’ve tried a few, this one has been a favourite so far, I’ve been calling it raw honey (working title lol) 🍯🤎
i want to make a deeper chocolate brown, a nice cream colour (that doesn’t include copious amount of expensive tin oxide lol), and a greeny kind of glaze for matcha bowls (I’ve tried a few greens but not loving any of the results just yet), and maybeeee a very dark blue 🌀

trying out some clay collected in Goomalling by @midland_brick 🧱 it’s always fun testing the limits of clay, especially a minimally processed local clay from nearby.
I finished the pieces with an ash glaze made from local wood ash (from jarrah and salmon gums), and reduction fired it to cone 10 in a gas kiln ❤️🔥
I’ll have a couple of these pieces available as part of next weeks shop update, and a big batch for an open studio event with @avonvalleyartstrail (more info about that to come!!) 🤭

using found objects in pottery 🔗
I found this piece of wire in the dry creek bed near my house, then inlaid it into wild clay, and finished it with a homemade ash glaze, so pretty much everything about this piece is made from stuff I found 🖇️
I left the slab of clay quite thick while making this because I wasn’t too sure how the wild clay would hold up, sometimes when bits of iron inside the clay ‘bloom’/melt it can crack if it’s thin, but this one was okay 🪨
