Fabric as a Physical Archive of Memory
In Bawh, fabric was not merely a raw material transformed into clothing it was a bearer of memory and a site of internal conflict. In this collection, fabric becomes a silent witness to an event that continues to leave its trace on both body and consciousness. Heavy, weight-laden textiles were carefully selected-raw linen, thick canvas, and compressed cotton to mirror the heaviness of the experience and its psychological toll. These materials were not left untouched; they underwent intentional processes during their construction. These actions were not decorative, but narrative reflecting how the mind processes traumatic memory: dissecting it, rearranging it, stitching it back together, while never concealing the scar. Some garments were sewn with thick, visible thread, preserving the marks of repair as evidence of what was once torn. Here, fabric is not a veil it is a new skin: stretched, tight, and scarred. At times, the piece seems as though it might collapse under the weight of its details, yet it remains intact just like a person trying to appear composed while trembling within. The use of irregular folds and asymmetrical layering exposes how memory attempts to create a coherent story out of a fragmented reality. Fabric doesn’t simply cover the body it speaks in its place, revealing its inner tremors, and telling its story in silence.
