🇫🇮 a late throwback of my installation work ’Planes of Incidence’, premiered at @aavistus Festival at @helsinginkaupunginmuseo . 1. Window - photo by @sussesusse 2. Outside display window 3. Language aurora close-up 4. Wall - photo by @sussesusse 5. Wall close-up 2024 was full of tears but happy ones ran out when completing this work. It all began at Aavistus Festival 2022 as performance 順風 á ferðalaginu (didn't work well imo), then gradually grows with me at the Visualia residency in Glommen, and now matured at its best format. ✨ Super grateful for every one who helped, supported and witnessed on the way 💖 x *** ’Planes of Incidence’ is a work that represents those who struggle to express themselves, finding it difficult to convey all their feelings accurately in one language. Through multilingual poetry, light and sound, it recreates the experience of words being understood, perceived, or sometimes misinterpreted and mistranslated, viewed from different perspectives of colour, angles, and speed in a conversation, presented in varied visual and sound textures. The multilingual poetry is reassembled from texts originally written in different languages. The selected poetry lines express the sentiment of being in a foreign land. The space is designed for the audience to feel and observe the flow of thoughts. 🎵 Sound design by @mseasik & @spitportrait (@pipeandpallet ) 🪟 Glass from @lasipiha *** 👀 The multilingual poetry is reassembled by text originally written in 11 different languages, the selected poetry lines, film scripts & song lyrics are mostly expressing the sentiment of belonging and being in a stranger's land. 👀 All typefaces are carefully selected, to make sure the aesthetic & readability is reserved no matter what language it is. Summer of Zolitūde Set in a micro-district in the summer months of Riga. A vacant playground speaks of distant memories of the past. Through an act of artistic rebellion, we reclaim the elements once enforced by the soviet model of living and leisure. They stand as lonely statues, relics often unable to be used because of their rotten wood and string, yet not torn down. The same material appears everywhere, only the colours differ. During the summer, we reactivated the space by embracing the former playground and hanging ribbons on the metal structures that were once intended for washing lines. Using a Fuji stop-motion camera to shoot 16 frames per scene, we captured the emotions of frozen time that we witnessed in Zolitūde. Once a countryside retreat, now a home to many, we question how solitude feels there. Simultaneously, we make a contribution to the previous visual studies of the space of Zolitūde through our work.

New exhibition in Rīga 開門大吉 🍊 Nāciet un ļaujiet vārdu, valodu gaismai caur sevi spīdēt 🪄🐋 Super grateful and happy to collab with @alise.ilena and @reinissemevics (aka @reinisramans ) this time 🪿🍀 Ierašanās Vēstules 到來書 Letters on Arrival 📅 22 Jul — 30 Aug 2025 📍@vaciesamuzejs Ojāra Vācieša iela 19, Rīga ⏰ Tue—Sat, 10:00-17:00 • Meet-the-Artists Event 📅 31 Jul (Thur) 18:00 • Workshop 📅 30 Aug (Sat) 13:00 Multilingvāla audiovizuāla gaismas instalācija ar darbnīcām un zīnu veidošanu par atnākšanu un aiziešanu 🌊 Pēc ilga ceļa “Ierašanās Vēstules 到來書” beidzot atgriežas Latvijā — vietā, kur ideja radās — un tagad nonāk Latvijas dzejnieka Ojāra Vācieša bijušajā mājā, kā daļa no @sabrsfestival zīnu un mazo izdevumu festivāla 💌 Ir nozīmīgi šo daudzvalodu gaismas instalāciju vest Latvijas sabiedrībai — īpaši dzejnieka mājā, kurš mīlēja kartes, vēstules un ceļojumus, tāpat kā tās tēmas, ko šis darbs pēta.

Exchange Diaries: Open Studio Studio No. 207, Hanzas iela 22 11–13 July As part of the Kim? Summer Residency, Sui Lam 林淼 [ @ssusui_ ] and Agnes Klein [ @________agnesklein ] open a new chapter in their diary of exchange as a creative duo—exploring personal narratives, cultural intersections, and the evolving nature of identity. Summer Works @smmrwrks is a Riga / Munich-based architecture collective active in schools of many kinds, founded by Māra Starka and Carla Wirsching. In a series of field trips and reading sessions, they study the footprints of post-war architecture. Given the spatial context of Hanzas 22, they are particularly interested in examining abandonment (of schoolhouses) as a spatial education practice, to challenge paradigms such as school reforms, school networks and classrooms through the lens of spatial production. Their studio at Kim? has become an archive-in-progress — part investigation board, part collage of small moments collected across Latvia. From 11 to 13 July, Studio No. 206 at Hanzas iela 22 will transform into an open space for sharing stories and collective memories of the strangely familiar yet deeply personal school experiences we share. Sui, a Hongkonger navigating life across Europe—particularly in the North—and Agnes, a Latvian with creative roots stretching into Asia, have spent the residency exchanging thoughts and stories through conversation and collaboration. Agnes brings a playful, human-centered approach to storytelling—curating objects, writing and film fragments, with a situationist’s eye. Sui shares multilingual poetry and audiovisual experiments that explore language, belonging, and cultural memory, with a focus on often-overlooked connections between Latvian and Asian narratives. Exchange Diaries is a checkpoint, a departure point and a starting point—a space for curiosity, connection, and the beginning of a longer journey. It celebrates stories that move across languages, lands, and lives.

We’re proud to announce the Kim? Summer Residents 2025: Sui Lam 林淼, Kamil Bouzoubaa-Grivel, Sebastian Koeck, and Carla Wirsching. This summer marks the inaugural edition of the Kim? Summer Residency, welcoming four international artists and researchers to Riga, Kim?’s future home at Hanzas 22, to work on their individual projects and engage with the city’s cultural fabric. Their practices—spanning visual art, architecture, and critical writing—bring diverse, transnational perspectives into conversation with the local context. We warmly congratulate the selected residents and look forward to hosting them this summer! Kamil Bouzoubaa-Grivel (@kamilbouzoubaagrivel ) is a French-Moroccan artist whose work navigates the space between digital and manual image-making, transforming virtual elements into hand-drawn forms. He has exhibited internationally and received numerous awards, including the Mustaqbal Prize (2024) and the Takesada Matsutani Prize (2020). Sui Lam 林淼 (@ssusui_ ) is a multidisciplinary artist, designer, and writer from Hong Kong, currently working across the Nordics, Baltics, UK, Taiwan, and Japan. Their practice explores language, identity, and personal narratives through audiovisual media, photography, printmaking, and multilingual writing. Sebastian Koeck (@sebaskoeck ) creates site-specific installations that explore absence, memory, and the poetic potential of vernacular material. His work reflects on history, chance, and the exhibition format itself as a medium for resistance and reflection. Carla Wirsching (@carla_wir ) is a German architect and researcher focused on the heritage of socialist modernism in post-Soviet countries. She currently works at TU Munich and contributes to architecture-related publishing, including the Zurich-based journal archithese.

‘The earth rises away from the shore A human figure slopes up from the ground Its toes touched toes of its mirror image Another human figure facing it The bottom half of this figure is cut into the earth and filled with water that has streamed inland The top half of the figure is a plain of grass That stretches offshore and descends underwater The monuments have been brought down to earth And made part of land and water’ @nicolasjaar - almost fell
