nowadays set for subglow/Live 10 𝄞⨾𓍢ִ໋🎧ྀི “This is a recording from my three-hour opening set at Nowadays Nonstop last fall. I played from 10pm to 1am, a slot I’ve come to cherish for the freedom it offers. When the floor isn’t packed out and chuggin’ yet, there’s room to weave together sonic worlds that might otherwise never meet during peak time.  It was one of the most fun nights I’ve had behind the decks in recent memory. I surfed the currents between trip hop, dub techno, latin house, hand perc freakers, bass, ambient…all sounds near and dear to me, while experiencing that special arc of an opening set…its beginning and its end as distinct chapters of the same story. There’s something about those early club moments…the Nowadays doors freshly opened, the space still empty. A foggy, floating dance floor where the early-birds bob like seagulls at the mouth of a grotto. Then, gradually, the shift….pulling slowly from downtempo into choppier, more frenetic waters. By 1am, the waters are at a perfect roiling boil, the energy built up enough to hand off to the peak-time captain of the night, Coffintexts. Pure bliss!
