Hey everyone, I’m sure most of you have heard by now about the fentanyl that is being laced in substances like xanax and cocaine that is going around Tallahassee. The number of overdoses is on the rise as well. This post is not to invoke mass panic and fear amongst the community, this is to get everyone educated about a very real, serious issue that is happening and has been happening. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid, 100x more potent than morphine, that is being cut into street drugs like cocaine, pills, mdma, ketamine, etc. It is hard to detect by the naked eye and a very small amount of this substance can kill you (see last slide) which is why it is so deadly. It is now the leading cause of death among 18-45 year olds. We are not here to tell you what to do but we highly recommend you do not take substances without testing them first. Fentanyl testing strips are a great harm reduction tool but you need to make sure you are using them correctly or they will not be as effective. Testing the entire batch is the most effective way because if you only test a portion, you could be missing the fentanyl and it won’t be detected. Narcan is also recommended to have because it reverses an opioid overdose although emergency care is still required immediately. We have resources available like Narcan (supplies currently running low due to influx of demand) as well as other Tallahassee services like @fhritally427 and @tallycommunityaid . You can buy full testing kits with reagents plus fentanyl testing strips from @dancesafe_ and @bunkpolice . Some resources for recovery are @collegiaterecovery . There is no judgement at all, please reach out to us through DM about any questions, comments, or concerns. Check out @dancesafe_ “fentanyl“ highlight on their Instagram for more in depth info. Be safe everyone ❤️

Repost from @ssdpvirginiatech 💓 DM US FOR INFO ABOUT NARCAN IN TLH Naloxone is a compound that when injected, can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose. Narcan is naloxone in a nasal spray from, making it less daunting for many people to administer. Narcan/ naloxone is becoming increasingly more important as the opioid crisis continues. Since it temporarily reverses an opioid overdose, it is a crucial tool in the current landscape of substance consumption considering fentanyl is being found in almost every substance. (See our fentanyl post for more information). Everyone should carry Narcan especially if you frequent festivals and parties and consume substances yourself. But remember! Emergency services still need to be dialed immediately upon overdose as naloxone is only temporary! WHERE TO GET NARCAN: Narcan can be found at most pharmacies and is covered by some insurances. We have a limited supply of Narcan currently and are working towards getting more. @mattadamsfoundation is also a great resource for free naloxone (mind you: they send the injectable form, not Narcan nasal spray). Stay safe everyone!

The fall music festival season in Florida is in full swing! 🔊 Check out our tips for how to keep you and your friends safe when attending festivals, concerts, raves and other large scale live music events! Before the event: - Plan a safe and sober ride home - Set a meet up location inside the venue in the event that phone service is spotty - Eat a good meal (protein and carbs) and hydrate with electrolytes, prepare for a festival like you are running a marathon - Make sure you have all essential items to keep yourself comfortable (tip 9) including a way to carry water in crowds - Carefully plan out any alcohol or substance use for public spaces -🚨 If using substances, make sure to use a fentanyl test strip AND reagent test kit (WE CAN HELP WITH SUBSTANCE TESTING IN TALLAHASSEE! DM) During the event: -Locate bathrooms, water stations and medical services inside each venue as you arrive - Carry Narcan, know the signs of overdose and be willing to help people near you in a crowd - Take breaks to hydrate, sit down, stretch and get away from the crowds during a festival - Wear ear plugs in front of large sound systems and subwoofers to avoid hearing damage After the festival: - Have a meetup point for the people you are going home with - Make sure all members of your group are accounted for and have a way to get home - Do not drive intoxicated or get in the car with someone who has been drinking or using substances - Stay alert, aware of your surroundings and with your group outside of venues. Especially if someone is intoxicated.
