Your favorite weirdos are on the cover of the Chronicle, baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ✨ A few years ago @justinegelfman said she thought I would really like her friend Sam and she was 1000000% correct. I am such a huge huge fan of Sam, his art, his thoughtfulness, his self-assuredness, his kindness, his honesty, his fearlessness, his drive and dedication… etc. etc. etc. Collaborating with him has been a wildly necessary gift to my life the last few years, and I feel so lucky to make weirdo art alongside his ginger ass. He is a genius who also allows me to find more of myself through making things. Together Sam and I have been sort of checking items off our goals list, and I said, hey why don’t we try to be on the cover of the Chronicle and the Chronicle said yes. And I said hey why don’t we recreate the Rolling Stone cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono and the Chronicle said yes CAN U BELIEVE?!?! 😍 Cheers to the universe for this freaky lil gift of self promotion hehehe. ➡️ Go see our shows at @fuseboxlive next week!! DORF is proud to announce the inaugural season of 𝙁𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙗𝙤𝙬𝙡 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮 — our new invitational residency series transforming DORF’s gallery into a visible, working studio throughout Summer 2026. This year’s inaugural residents are: ✨ 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀 (Austin, TX) June 1–27 ✨ 𝗦𝗮𝗺 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 (Austin, TX) Aug 10–Sept 5 ✨ 𝗞𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 (Houston, TX) Sept 8–26 Working across performance and experimental theater, these acclaimed artists will inhabit DORF’s gallery as an active studio, production hub, and public-facing site of creative exploration. Each resident artist or collective receives a $2,000 unrestricted stipend, artist talk stipends, curatorial support, and ongoing access to the gallery. Throughout the residency, DORF will host weekly Open Studio hours every Saturday from 12–5 PM, welcoming the public into evolving works in progress. DORF’s partner Carpenter Hotel (@carpenterhotel ) is generously providing 3-weeks of complimentary lodging and pool passes for this season’s visiting artist, daily food and beverage stipends, 1-night stays for local artists and honorariums for artist talks and programming! ✨ARTIST SPOTLIGHT✨ Andie Flores is a doctoral candidate and performance artist who plays with embarrassment and failure. For better or for worse, she continues to renew her commitment to doing the work of the absurd. Sam Mayer is a playwright and performance maker from Houston. He is the recipient of the Chesley/Bumbalo Foundation Prize. Grant Gilker is an artist and a recent graduate at the University of Texas and Plan II and playwriting/directing. They are currently co-producing and curating the Mi Casa Es Su Teatro with Frontera Fest and will also be performing in Fusebox this spring in season six of Sam Meyer’s poolboy. Ayesha Hughes (she/they) is a Texan native theater actor, clown, puppeteer, and Montessori teacher. Their previous work includes Tongue Play and House Play produced by the Broccoli project, “Remember” - an interactive children’s theater experience produced at UT, and impersonating Jojo Siwa in a Bronx basement. Sam and Andie hired Grant and Ayesha to play Sam and Andie in a play about queer utopia. The play is a conversation about how to be better, do better, and live together in a place that might already exist. The play is set in Texas, right now. 3 Scenes from Queer Utopia was born from our desire to envision a better world, while embracing the tensions between our worldviews. Sam is a cynic, Andie chooses hope. But we both believe a better world is possible. So we hired two younger artists to play us to prove it. What is the artists’ role in making the world a better place?
