Hokum Review:
Horror films are of multiple types, including psychological thrillers that take the shape of supernatural films and vice versa. The Babadook and The Sixth Sense are good examples of psychological thrillers with the look and feel of supernatural films. On the other hand, Bhoothakaalam and Hereditary start off as psychological dramas, only to peel back supernatural layers that leave the audience in a state of stupefaction. Writer-director Damian McCarthyâs Hokum offers an ingenious hybrid of supernatural horror and psychological thriller that scares and fascinates the audience in equal measure. The film blurs the lines between what constitutes reality and the imaginary with an intriguing story about a writerâs descent into a tragic chapter from his past. There is solid detailing, both visual and literal, in the latest directorial outing from the maker of Oddity that does not just merit a second viewingâthe film demands it.

Indrans' journey has been all about desire. At the Karuppu audio launch, Suriya praised the actor, highlighting his background as a tailor and costume designer and his long journey in cinema. He spoke about Indrans' evolution, from an actor who faced body shaming while being relegated to small roles in ensemble comedies to one who now makes his presence felt with lead characters. He also discussed Indrans' hunger and passion for learning, underscoring how his Karuppu co-star wanted to complete seventh standard recently.

The Sheep Detectives review:
Warm, fuzzy, sans fluff and full of dry, sardonic wit, The Sheep Detectives is a thoroughly entertaining whodunnit with an emotional resonance that makes it appealing to both kids and adults. True to its title, a flock of sheep turns detectives as their caretaker, George (Hugh Jackman), dies in mysterious circumstances. This is not a spoiler, as the trailer itself gives it away and it is no last-act twist. The main draw for the film is not the investigation itself but rather the constant stream of humour in it and the pay-offs to some of the broader arcs in the story.
The humour keeps us invested in what the characters do beyond the detective portions, and the film does not necessarily restrict itself into a murder mystery. There is a great deal of emphasis on exploring what George means to the sheep. The man reads detective stories to his flock before bedtime every day, assuming that his âaudienceâ is merely enjoying the sound of his voice and that they cannot understand the plot. However, when he dies, the sheep follow the methods of crime in his stories. Gradually, however, they realise that solving crime in the real world is not as easy as connecting the dots in the stories. Read More...

Bumped into an actor who played one of my favourite characters this year. Had a brief conversation about Sarvam Maya.. She's just like Delulu.
With this, I guess my Sarvam Maya cycle is pretty much complete (only Akhil Sathyan is left). Met all three of its stars at different phases of life, and each of them has such a lovely personality and said or did something I won't forget.
Kaakee Circus review:
In ZEE5âs new series Kaakee Circus, set in a place near the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, Munishkanth plays Anbuselvan, a jailer who is nearing retirement and who believes that reading books would reform convicts. On the other hand, his subordinate, Arjun (Subash Selvam) has a more stringent approach to law enforcementâone that involves metering out severe punishment. Arjun does not believe in his superiorâs more peaceful way of dealing with prisoners and potential convicts one bit, mainly because he feels that cops have a greater, more direct purpose and role in society. It has an interesting premise. Unfortunately, however, the series is more content with a surface-level exploration of the theme and more busy offering gags reminiscent of standard television entertainment. This strict adherence to genre pleasures holds Kaakee Circus back, even as it provides mild entertainment with plenty of chuckle-inducing moments and an array of memorable performances.

The Drama Review:
âOne time, 1965, August, for about an hour, I was both fine and dandy at the same time. But nobody asked me how I was. And I could have told them. I could have told them...â
Said George Carlin once.
Watching Kristoffer Borgli's The Drama, starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, is like sitting through a long standup session by George Carlin. You laugh at the punchlines instantly and incessantly, only to pause and reflect on the provocative undertones soon afterwards and realise that the joke is on us. Carlin's comedy often questions our morality, stripping us of our passivity to confront the harsh realities that we prefer to overlook. The film shares the same interrogative DNA as a Carlin session. It explores many hefty themes, including the importance of trust and loyalty in relationships, gun violence in America, how deeply public perception influences privacy, choices and second chances, and empathy. And it delivers all its big, bold ideas with the kind of surgical precision and wit that makes it an entertaining and disquieting watch at once. Read More...

Kasaragod Embassy series review:
Kasaragod Embassy on ZEE5 aims to capture the quirk and eccentricity of a gangster series like Krishandâs Sony LIV show The Chronicles of the 4.5 Gang, but the execution is way off the mark. The series revolves around two youngsters, Azi (Abu Salim) and Chemmu (Govind Pai), who get into the fake passport business in Kasaragod out of desperation for a livelihood, only to find themselves neck-deep in a major crime racket. âKasaragod is like an onion. It has all fake layers,â a character tells one of their allies early on in the show. Everything from educational certificates to even police officers has duplicates in the district. Living in such a world means that, for the youngsters, their long-term aspirations are as simple as consuming ganja. To quote Maslow's hierarchy of needs, their self-actualisation need may be someone elseâs basic psychological need. In other words, it is the kind of life they want to live, because they only know about such a life. This is one of the seriesâ many interesting ideas worth deeper exploration, but unfortunately, the makers don't fully immerse you in its world. As a result, the show stereotypes Kasaragod and its people, doing a disservice to them.
Director: Atish M Nair
Cast: Deepak Parambol, Abu Salim, Govind Pai, Kabir Duhan Singh, Sudheesh, Rony David

Director Kleber Mendonca Filhoâs The Secret Agent begins with a visual detail that lays bare the corruption that is rampant in the world it is set in, which is Brazil of the 1970s. A man named Marcelo (Wagner Moura) drives to a gas station to refuel his car; there is a corpse at the property, but nobody except for him cares about it. The gas station guy acts as if the body belongs exactly where it should be, and the police are only concerned about what the man has in his yellow Volkswagen Beetle. Right from the first frame to the very last, Marcelo faces the pressure and paranoia of being constantly watched by such corrupt and authoritative officials. Wagner Moura embodies these traits of his character in a wonderfully understated performance that holds the film together even as its storytelling wobbles on occasion. Read More...

The Strangers: Chapter 3 Movie Review:
âOkay, George. Your parents are dead. You have nothing to live for. And actionâŚâ
George Clooney says this to Graham Norton in an interview while discussing his Batman and Robin director Joel Schumacherâs style of working. Even young Bruce Wayne finds a sense of purpose in becoming Batman after his parents die at the hands of street criminals, but the characters in The Strangers: Chapter 3 continue to plunge themselves into a spiralling cycle of pain and apathy and do not evolve. Many of them seem to live for nothing but the grim 'pleasures' of senseless slaughter. Read More....
