Talk Talk's 1985 classic "Life's What You Make It" remains one of the most elevated pop songs of that decade, and was an apt choice for
@squidbanduk to take on as part of their secret session for Best Fit at last year's
@endoftheroad festival.
"We decided to do a version of 'Life’s What You Make It' by Talk Talk to celebrate not one, but two in-house birthdays in the band," Squid guitarist Louis Borlase tells Best Fit. "We played at the Piano Stage back all the way in 2019 when we were children, so it felt pretty nice to come back and do it again this time before our slot on the Woods stage. We discussed the show afterwards and were firmly in agreement that it was one of our highlights of 2025 so thank you EOTR and see you soon!"
The cover was part of a secret session by the band for Best Fit's at September's End of the Road, which also saw pop-up sets from The Orchestra (For Now),Throwing Muses, Truman Sinclair, Tyler Ballgame, Jake Xerxes Fussell, The Sophs, Ellie O'Neill, Man/Woman/Chainsaw, jasmine.4.t, Lily Seabird, and Stewart Lee with Black Country, New Road.
Best Fit's secret sessions have become a key part of End of the Road each year, bringing together artists from across the line-up in a series of short sets, exclusive cover, collaborations, and live interviews and Q&As. Past guests have included Lucy Dacus, St Vincent, Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Moses Sumney, Laura Marling, Patti Smith, and Frightened Rabbit - who played a now iconic version of "The Modern Leper".
