TIX ON HEADFIRST @heinouswhiner + @alexiizaak Duo ( Leeds ) ******+******+*******++**+******+********+* This collaboration brings together two distinct but complementary improvisers. Alex Izaak Milling’s work, exemplified by his recent album All His Angels, foregrounds vocal multiplicity: layering, disjunction, and resonance are deployed to open spaces where devotional intensity and estrangement coincide. Theo Gowans (organiser of Territorial Gobbins nights + label) engages in an aesthetics of fragmentation, repurposing sound through interruption, reconfiguration, and unruly juxtaposition. In performance, the duo enact a live negotiation between these practices, using improvised vocalisation as both material and method. The result is less a fixed composition than an unfolding ecology and experiment of the voice “ Modulated vocals of drones and groans, big, round- mouthed vowels, a kazoo here and a shaker there set the tone. We are so thrilled to announce a new series at DW, “Unruly Voices,” created by Heather Kays (@heather_kays ) In her own words: “A night of poetry that challenges the status quo and the systems that created it. Come hear these unique, sharp, bright voices speak hard and heartfelt truths.” The first show will feature Edie Roberts (@squabtastic ), Joss Barton (@ganjacum_ ), Olli Sure (@tsandabundant ) and Heather Kays. Each in their own way uniquely powerful voices, with the craft to go along to give their work extra depth. Get your feels ready for this, you’ll be all up in them, I promise. Following the featured poets is an open mic, so bring your own notebook/smartphone notes app/or back of a receipt you scribbled a few inspired verses on during a quick flash of inspiration! $10 suggested donation
