đź‘‹ Hello from the Spur Local team! We wanted to re-introduce ourselves now that you're calling us by a new name.
Since 2003, Spur Local—formerly known as the Catalogue for Philanthropy—has connected thousands of DMV residents with the hundreds of small, community-based nonprofits in their neighborhoods.
Beyond raising their visibility, we have also become the region’s largest capacity builder for small nonprofits, training 20,000+ nonprofit participants since 2020.
Over the past two decades, our team has seen grassroots organizations nimbly addressing the needs of local communities by working with them to make a real difference.
We are excited to continue amplifying and sustaining their work long-term! Join us by visiting spurlocal.org to get started.
The Catalogue for Philanthropy is thrilled to announce that it is rebranding as Spur Local! This marks the beginning of a new chapter in our organization’s 20-year history of supporting critical nonprofits that work to strengthen the Greater Washington region.

"I started fostering for @luckydoganimalrescue because my dog was lonely at home, but Lucky Dog has quickly consumed my life in the very best way!" Emily Ritter, a foster and volunteer with Lucky Dog, now volunteers at adoption events almost every weekend. She handles dogs to give them a chance at meeting adopters. She also fosters cats and dogs, providing them a safe place to stay before they get adopted.
"When I first started volunteering, I had no idea the impact Lucky Dog would have on my life," Emily said. "The Lucky Dog community welcomed me with open arms, and I have made so many friends. I have learned about myself, and this experience has shaped me as a person. Not only have I helped save more than 25 lives, but through my volunteer work, I have also adopted one dog and two cats who bring me joy every single day. I am so thankful for Lucky Dog for not only giving me the chance to expand my own fur family but for creating space for me to improve countless lives—both two- and four-legged."

A longtime supporter of @cb_empowergirls , Theresa Testoni consistently gives her time, talent, and resources to ensure that young women in grades 4-12 have what they need to thrive academically, personally, and emotionally. She is deeply motivated by their mission to empower girls to become confident, engaged students and strong, compassionate leaders in their communities.
One of Theresa's most meaningful contributions has been helping to establish and strengthen a partnership with the Rainbow Community Development Center. This partnership has supported the ongoing distribution of nutritious food and healthy snacks for girls and their families—an essential resource that strengthens well-being and removes barriers to learning. Since 2020, this effort has contributed to the distribution of millions of pounds of food to the Community Bridges community.
Additionally, Theresa played a key role in helping to secure a 15-passenger van, expanding the organization's ability to safely transport students to programs, college visits, and leadership opportunities. She also helps coordinate the Adopt-a-Family holiday program, ensuring that families experience joy, dignity, and support during the holiday season, and the Blazers for Her initiative, which collects professional attire so that girls are prepared and confident for workforce opportunities.
"Theresa's impact goes far beyond any single program," said Shannon Babe-Thomas, Executive Director of Community Bridges. "She is a connector, problem-solver, and tireless advocate who continually expands the network of people invested in [our] mission. Her work helps strengthen the entire ecosystem of support around the girls and families [we] serve."
Theresa's commitment reflects the heart of Community Bridges: when a community comes together around its young people with intention and care, meaningful and lasting change is possible.
