In January, spent a week in the UK shooting a story about climate campaigner Sarah Finch for the Goldman Environmental Prize. We also made a quick trip to Stonehenge and the @MuseumOfBritishSurfing

I went to Albania in January to film the story of environmental activists Besi Guri and Olsi Nika, who defended the Vjosa, the last free-flowing river in Europe, from a hydropower dam boom. And after a week of road tripping around the country with them, I rented a bicycle and rode down the Adriatic coast for three days. Production of “The Wintering Grounds” began in December 2019, with an interview with Stephen Wright. The plan was to finish filming that spring with the Paddle South competition. Then a pandemic happened.

We finished our ride from Zurich to Ljubljana in 15 days. 626 miles and 26,350 feet of climbing. This was our hardest trip yet. We just got through Salzburg and Villach before Cyclone Boris would have stopped us. As it was we got rained on for a full day in Austria and half a day in Slovenia. We rode through Anger Germany on the way to Salzburg. From Salzburg we climbed for a day and a half to Böckstein where we caught a train that is mostly for cars but has a bike car to go through the alps where there are no roads.
