Sad to hear the news of Steve Cropper passing. A good one gone. He told me they had a Steve Cropper day, in his small hometown. He got gas there days later. He went in to pay the lady, with his credit card. She looked at his name, said oh yeah, youāre the one thatās had his day. He will be sorely missed. Rest In Peace and love to his family.
Hello Friends! This account was hacked and I didnāt have access for a while. Iām back and on the road with Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts and having a good time. I was playing basketball behind the venue in Gilford, NH 3 weeks ago and went for a hook-shot and fell and broke my pelvis, but Iām still out here on the road enjoying myself and recovering well. Thanks for all the well wishes š
@wyxr_memphis is having their Spring Pledge Drive if ya have some spare change to donate. Posted @withregram ⢠@wyxr_memphis Roxanne and Spooner Oldham came by for a fantastic time today.
Spooner, known largely for his work as an organist with the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, also spent many years in Memphis as a songwriter, frequently collaborating with the likes of Dan Penn and Chips Moman.
Thanks for swinging by and sharing some unforgettable soul stories.
Posted @withregram ⢠@arethafranklin "[I NEVER LOVED A MAN THE WAY I LOVE YOU] opens with 'Respect,' her first Number One single and one of the greatest album openers of all time, flipping @OtisRedding ās scolding barnburner into an explosive Technicolor anthem of self-determination and pride that connected the Civil Rights and feminist struggles." -ROLLING STONE
Released on this day in '67, I NEVER LOVED A MAN THE WAY I LOVE YOU, was Aretha's first certified Gold album and hit #2 on the Billboard Album Chart and #1 on the Top R&B Selling Chart. To this day, it is considered one of Aretha's greatest bodies of work, and it was included in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Repost ⢠@thedavidgahr A previously unseen image of Aretha in Atlantic Records studios in NYC, April 1968, recording āAretha Nowā with producer Arif Mardin and the famed Muscle Shoals rhythm section, including Spooner Oldham on keys, Jimmy Johnson and Tommy Cogbill on guitars and bassist Jerry Jemmott. @thedavidgahr had exclusive access during these sessions and one of his color portraits of Aretha serves as the cover image on the original LP release.

Happy Birthday Dear Friend. Posted @withregram ⢠@muscleshoalssoundstudio Happy Birthday to two iconic figures in Muscle Shoals music history. W.C. Handy is known as the Father of the Blues and was born in Florence, AL in 1873 and died in 1958. Dan Penn was born in 1941 in Vernon, Alabama. He is a songwriter, singer, musician, and record producer, who co-wrote many soul hits of the 1960s, including "The Dark End of the Street" and "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" with Chips Moman and "Cry Like a Baby" with Spooner Oldham.š
