Back in Ithaca, NY for our final week of what has been a beautiful two year collaboration with @musicatcornell . We canât wait to share what music we are cooking up this week! â°ď¸đťâĽď¸âŚď¸
What an amazing show last night at @thelabsf ! For the first time, we presented our program of all spatialized electroacoustic music. A special shoutout to some of our favorite composers and people, Sam Pluta, @hugomoralesmurguia , Paula Matthusen, and @zacharyjameswatkins . Until next time Bay Area. We love you!
Splinter Reedsâa paradigm-shifting reed quintet founded in the Bay Area in 2013 and now dispersed across the USâreturns home for a bracing performance of spatialized electroacoustic work. The program includes a new composition by Hugo Morales Murguia entangling the groupâs woodwinds with electric fan-driven game calls, a rare full presentation of Paula Matthusenâs immersive Antenna Studies (a work featured on their most recent album that incorporates FM radio transmission and sonic contributions from the audience), and Treatment V by beloved local High Frequency Resonance wizard Zachary James Watkins.

âAntenna Studies is a work which explores geometries of transmission, between FM transmission, cell-phone streaming of original audio files, acoustic instruments, and live-electronics.
Antenna Studies involves multiple layers of sound that may be tuned into by performers and audience members at different points, either by radio or phone. The hope is to forge different forms of intimacy, as well as agency, in listening to and across different spaces, and the devices used to bridge them.â
We hope to see you on Friday, February 13 at @thelabsf where we will perform Paula Matthusenâs Antenna Studies, a work that has had a long history with our group!
We are back on the road next week playing at the @thelabsf in San Francisco! In the meantime, weâve got a Splinter classic in a new version. Matthew Shlomowitzâs âLine & Lengthâ. đ
