These Rose-breasted Grosbeaks have stopped by to refuel after completing their marathon 600-mile flight across the gulf from wintering sites in the tropics. They are halfway to their breeding range in the northeastern part of the US. Some may even go as far as the Boreal Forest in Canada!

Congratulations to Angel Khrino for recently graduating from the University of Florida!🐊🥳 Angel, who has just earned her Master’s of Science in Wildlife Forensic Science and Conservation, recently joined the SPIBNCAS as a Naturalist Educator and has already been an incredible support to our Education team! We are so very proud of her for this major accomplishment and are so excited to have this Gator join our Center!💚
We had such a great time with our local Port Isabel ISD 5th graders this week as they became field biologists and helped us conduct colonial waterbird surveys and water quality tests of our wetlands!
Bird survey data collected was submitted to @team_ebird where it will be used by conservation biologist to gauge the health of colonial waterbird populations along the gulf coast.
We hope to inspire the next generation of conservation biologists along the Lower Laguna Madre.
