Autistic students who seem to be doing great academically might still be silently struggling.
Research shows autistic students with high cognitive ability are more likely to experience suicidal thoughts, which is why it’s essential to support their mental health.

Time to say goodbye to ableist assessments that target eye contact, stimming, appropriate use of body language, turn taking, responding to bullying, unde, behavior compliance using social scripts and results that lead to masking goals.

Okay but can we talk about how IMPORTANT this is?!
NeuroFirmX was built with intention from day one: ✔️ Center marginalized voices ✔️ Prioritize autistic speakers ✔️ Amplify lived experience ✔️ PAY PEOPLE for their expertise
86% of our lineup is autistic and we are SO proud of the conversations happening at NeuroAffirm X.
We’re kicking things off with @livedexperienceeducator and trust me… you are going to leave thinking deeper, learning more, and probably unlearning a lot too.
We cannot WAIT to see you there :-) (neuroaffirmx.com)

Two days from now, NeuroAffirmX begins… and I honestly can’t believe we’re this close.
This event has been on my heart for such a long time.
And now it’s almost here. 🥳
Chris and I have spent the last couple of years basically pillow talking about this…
About how much we need spaces like this.
Where conversations go deeper than buzzwords and surface-level content.
Where neurodivergent voices are not just included, but the center-focus.
Where care providers can come learn, listen, and grow in ways that actually matter.
That’s what makes NeuroAffirmX feel so special to me.
On May 15, we’re bringing together 15 incredible speakers to talk about some of the most important topics in neuroaffirming care right now, including AAC, PDA, sensory needs, emotional regulation, feeding, accommodations, and more.
And because we’re only two days away now, I just really don’t want you to miss it.

The PDA conversation has evolved a LOT over the last few years.
But in trying to move away from stigmatizing language… are we also losing some clarity about the actual lived experience?
Let me know your thoughts below.

For some children with Pathological Demand Avoidance, adult authority can feel very intense to the nervous system. Standing over them can unintentionally reinforce a hierarchy of:
“I’m in control and you have to comply.”
Sitting lower or beside them can soften that dynamic and help the interaction feel: • more balanced • less controlling • more collaborative • more relational than authoritative
It helps reduce the “me versus you” feeling and can create more nervous system safety.
We are incredibly excited for the leading researcher in PDA to be joining us at NeuroAffirmX to give you practical strategies you can use RIGHT AWAY. 🔥
Dr. Casey Ehrlich @atpeaceparents will be sharing her lived experience - plus simple and completely life changing strategies for PDAers and their families.

A lot of autistic people value clarity over “reading between the lines.”
Dylan asking direct questions like this on a date might save him months (or years) of confusion.
Avoiding hard conversations doesn’t eliminate incompatibility… it just delays discovering it!
I feel like we could all probably learn a little from people like Dylan.
You agree?
