SPE:C opens 2026 with its first full-length album. Infinity Scale comes from @buckley_uk , a Manchester-based artist and long-time presence in the SPE:C orbit whose sound has steadily evolved from the darker, looser edges of club music. Since his breakout Bass Mids Tops, Buckley has built a language rooted in dubstep, garage, and percussive bass music. Infinity Scale expands that language with a clear shift in tone, moving between ambient, near-weightless dub and more physical terrain, from halftime to driving, percussive drum and bass. Less direct in its club focus, the tracks stretch, dissolve, and re-form, carrying fragments of his earlier palette into something more expansive and deliberate. Preorder is up today on @bandcamp with the title track “Infinity Scale” and the killer intro tune “Tintinnabulum” Full release drops May 28th 💎 Artwork @reza.hasni Mastering @daggermastering

👽👽 I've wanted to highlight SPE:C for a while as it's a label really pushing the boundaries with bass music. Darwin has done, and is continuing to do an amazing job with the label, highlighting up and coming acts. This post highlights 2024 up until now. 📝 I caught up with label head, @darwin_reef , to ask a couple of questions which you can find the answers to in the slides if you swipe across. 👀 Slide 20 features an exclusive teaser of a forthcoming project. You don't want to miss it! 🎨 All label artwork featured in this post were created by reza.hasni . Check out their page, there is some wonderful pieces on there. ⬇️ Let me know your favourites in the comments! _______________________ Founded in 2015 by Darwin, SPE:C is a Berlin-based label bridging UK soundsystem culture with industrial sound. The label’s "technoid bass" identity is defined by sub-bass pressure and a sci-fi aesthetic which prioritises platforming undiscovered talent. Darwin curates "moody, swampy, and visceral" textures, focusing on spacious low-end weight and "alien" sound design that pushes genre boundaries. The catalogue features foundational artists like Decka, whose techno hybrids launched the imprint, and newer vanguards like Carré, whose futuristic dubstep earned significant global acclaim. SPE:C serves as the hub for Darwin’s ecosystem, including the REEF residency at Berghain and the ABYSS project, which explores the restorative power of bass through movement meditation. Her work further integrates experimental deep-listening through the 2025 offshoot label, Biofield Records. Marking its tenth anniversary in 2025, SPE:C remains a personal passion project funded by Darwin’s international DJing. The label maintains a digital-first catalogue while introducing physical formats like the "10 Year Anniversary Dub-Stick" which is a 3D-printed keychain USB containing exclusive unreleased music. By nurturing talent and promoting industry sustainability, SPE:C remains a central force in Berlin’s bass landscape.

@spec_records is no longer on Spotify. (and @biofield_records never will be) After years of feeling uneasy about how the platform strategizes listening, and after digging deeper into @lizpelly ’s writing, my opinion on this has become very clear. I cannot support an infrastructure that treats music as disposable atmosphere, that has run recruitment ads for ICE, and that has been connected to investments in military and AI weapon technology. Not to mention the growing flood of AI generated tracks uploaded every day that further displaces the work of human artists. The values behind these actions do not align with mine. My work, and the work of the artists I collaborate with, is made for active listening and for people who are genuinely curious about sound. Spotify encourages music to be consumed as background mood content instead of something chosen with care and intention. It does not support artists in a fair or sustainable way and it flattens culture into something passive and easy to throw away. I was hesitant to say anything at all because I felt I had taken way too long to act, but since removing the catalog I have been asked almost daily where the music went. I want to be clear that this is not about judging anyone for how they listen. I am not here to convince or persuade. I am simply sharing why I made this choice for myself and for the label. To those who mainly use Spotify and no longer have access to our catalog, I am sorry. I hope this invites a deeper look at who we support, how we listen, and what kind of culture we choose to sustain.

As the final release for the 10-year @spec_records anniversary, I linked up with an old friend. I’ve been following Adam @mainphase93 long before things took off for him. We first connected around his Absolute Main Phase Bandcamp releases back in 2020. Not long after, he invited me to play at this really fun spot called Baggen in Copenhagen, and we’ve been in touch ever since. When he sent me Amphibian, I completely fell in love. It felt really different to what he was doing at the time, dank but somehow spiritual, like a throwback to the Kryptic Minds sound with more color. Then he sent Temporal Shift, and I was like alright, we’ve got some serious heat on our hands. That’s when I decided to break my own rule about platforming lesser-known artists and do this release. I wanted to pull him back toward his roots and bring out something more stripped back and heavy. I’m so gassed about how this one turned out. It’s a fun record to close this decade of SPE:C.
