One of many reasons our production is unique is that we have two amazing directors: Jacqui Du Toit and Pamela Witcher! ✨️✨️✨️ For this rehearsal process, Pamela has joined us remotely from Vancouver. She works with our group to ensure and refine the authentic and culturally accurate representation of ASL, hand shapes, signed music and poetry, and Deaf culture, while Jacqui leads most of our rehearsals in person, ensuring our blocking, emotions/emoting, themes and stories are clear, consistent and well communicated. Jacqui is also the show's audio describer! We could go on and on: about their skills and creative vision, their ability to work together to understand our intentions and stories, and bring out the best in the performers… Instead we suggest you come experience their work for yourself! Accessibility in the arts is too often an afterthought. In performance, we rarely pause to ask: who is being left out, and how can we invite them in? @speakinvibrations challenges that by centering inclusivity at its core. This unique, multidisciplinary performance has everything — dance, music, spoken word, ASL, and signed music — brought to life by Deaf and hearing artists. And it’s truly accessible: with captions, vibrotactile devices to feel sound as vibration, audio description devices (generously donated by @ottawafringe ), tactile demonstrations, and wheelchair accessible seating. ✨ Co-presented with @ottawadancedirective 📅 October 2, 3, 4, 2025 at 7:30 PM 📍 ODD Box | 2 Daly Ave, Ottawa 🎟️ Tickets available on Eventbrite 🔗 Link in @speakinvibrations bio Come experience performance reimagined — where accessibility isn’t added on, it’s the heartbeat of the show. 💫

ACT1_SC5_V2 This was one of our test videos for our creative caption video development in 2022. We were working with video designer Lesley Marshall @mavnetwork and deciding which fonts looked best for this scene. Poetry by @kingkimbit Captions in various coloured fonts (ex: purple karaoke, white cursive) against a black background read: Stolen away from home Never too late to make ammendments. We've grown so far away Disconnected become distant Trying to convince us If we don't know we won't miss it The soul is only whole once you go back and visit You have to go back and get it Wherever you come from The truth from our roots From there we can never run Whether or not you know What it is will always be So don't you think it's better If you check on it and see? Check on it and see Checking my story... 📖 📖 📖 Come check out our caption videos (and which fonts we chose!) in person! There are so many cool elements in our show, and one of them is our CREATIVE CAPTIONS ✨️ Our captions appear on a screen at the same time as performers speak, sign or sing. They have lives and stories of their own - dynamic and moving visual art pieces that not only improve accessibility but are beautiful in their own right. Come check them out in person October 2-4 at ODD Box, Arts Court!
