THINK A LOT (exhibition photo documentation selection 1) ABSTRACT: And all owls think a lot, a lot, a lot, think a lot, think a lot, think a lot, think a lot...  Cumulative research and experiments in sound, video, projection, LES666 layers both analogue and digital in this second year MFA show. Creating an experiential and interactive environment, THINK A LOT takes its form as a deconstructed quilt in self-portrait. Its abstract patchwork of reflection, refraction and cyclical motion references their personal story of surrealist cinematic nostalgia. With responding light, colours, and sound, a woven meta-narrative invites you to imagine the significance and insignificance of events that feel like magic, imbuing the serendipity of the everyday. Connecting the stories we tell ourselves and stories that form ley lines through -and to- our family, friends, and even strangers that pass us by; every piece is stitched together in its ‘right place’, a duality of order and chaos. From a divination car radio to a street light turning off under your window, talking plants, and the remarkable perception given by a child, THINK A LOT tunes into crip theory comforts found nestled in the blanket of all-seeing frequencies ;)  “And all owls think a lot” quote from children’s story Owl Babies by Martin Waddell 📸 @sohe.13

Join us on International Day of the Midwife and celebrate the Victoria release of the @nsicanada @storyhive @telusoriginals short documentary: Perennial Midwifery! 🗓️TUES MAY 5th 2026 at 5PM 📍Cinecenta 💌Suggested Donation: $15 (PWYC) 🎟️Tickets @cinecentafilms / link in bio Synopsis: The intergenerational story of two midwives who met and practiced in Sooke, BC: local legend Uta Herold, originally from Germany, and protégé Crystal Herie, originally from the Métis community in qathet (Powell River). Hear their remarkable tale of coming together, from fearful skeptic to fully educated convert, each setting out to bring circular care to regional birthing families through their nearly lost vocation. Midwifery, which was only ‘legalized’ or government regulated in BC in 1998, was nearly lost as a critical traditional community service and deeply needed local resource. Created by -former and current- Sooke regional residents: Lesley Marshall (writer, animator, director, editor, composer), Melanie Butler (associate producer), Jayne Walling (musical contributor), and Gavin Andrews (post-production). Featuring Uta Herold and Crystal Herie of Sooke Midwifery. Presented with an encore screening of: “Somos Parteiras (We Are Midwives)” (1999) 20min documentary by Gavin Andrews @gavin.andrews At the turn of the millennium, on the edge of the Amazon River, traditional midwives from around the region come together to create a radio soap opera about their lives and experiences caring for women and newborns in their diverse communities. Cannot express enough gratitude for Uta and Crystal the subjects of “Perennial Midwifery” > last night Crystal flew in to surprise Uta for the screening! Coming to reunite with her mentor after moving from Sooke to Penticton! A wonderful evening with poetry from @fatimawritingdoula and vocal performance from @jaynewalling > more gratitude for my team @but_mel and @gavin.andrews and theatre tech Violet made it such a unique and special way to celebrate midwives, doulas and birth centred care in rural BC.

Two artists playing with light and shadow for Lunar New Year. We’re showcasing Year of the Fire Horse, a shadow puppetry & projection show. Created by and directed by Judy Woo (SOCC Artist in Residence) and supported by filmmaker Lesley Marshall, teamed up to create something a little different: Hand-sewn puppets, layered projections, and the five elements, all in celebration of the 2026 Year of the Fire Horse. SOCC Lounge B120 Thursday, March 12 at 5PM 🎭 @soccollective
