The intervention focused on a 19th-century ensemble and stood out for its constructive rigour, the quality of materials and the coherence of its architectural language, establishing a clear presence without overshadowing the existing buildings.
Organized around three gestures — the rehabilitation of the Casa Térrea e Torre, the recovery of the Service Garage, and the introduction of a new Summer Pavilion — the project seeks to reestablish continuity between architecture, memory, and landscape, restoring the identity of the place while adapting it to contemporary modes of inhabitation.

(en) We are pleased to share that the project Vila do Bispo Museum – Barn of History has been distinguished with the Architecture MasterPrize, in the Cultural Architecture category.
The intervention emerges from the preservation of the site’s identity, through the reinterpretation of the former granaries and the addition of a new volume that, in a clear and restrained manner, establishes the main entrance to the complex. The balance between formal continuity, chromatic abstraction, and the presence of a pigmented concrete element anchors the museum within its territory with clarity and a sense of permanence.
This recognition reinforces our commitment to a form of public architecture that is attentive to memory, collective use, and its relationship with the landscape.
It is a privilege to see this project recognized alongside a remarkable group of architects, among whom we would like to extend special congratulations to Álvaro Siza.

Vila do Bispo Museum is a cultural project by spaceworkers @spaceworkers , completed in 2024 in Vila do Bispo, Portugal. The intervention adds a new volume to a pair of existing agricultural warehouses, replicating their formal language while asserting its own identity through red-pigmented exposed concrete — a deliberate landmark in the urban and aerial landscape. The existing naves, totalling approximately 680 sqm, are neutralized in gray to frame an organic interior exhibition layout finished in black. The new volume houses technical and administrative functions, freeing the historic core entirely for exhibition. The result reads as a building that has always belonged to the place.

(pt) O verde não é apenas cor. É matéria, profundidade e intenção.
Estrutura o espaço e dá-lhe espessura.
Aqui, o verde não decora, constrói.

It structures the space and gives it substance.
Here, green does not decorate, it builds.

Vila do Bispo Museum by @spaceworkers balances preservation and transformation through the addition of a new volume that reinterprets the form of the existing warehouses. While the original naves are unified in neutral tones and adapted into a fluid exhibition space, the new red pigmented concrete volume houses supporting functions and establishes a bold urban landmark. Acting as the main entrance, it creates a dialogue between old and new, allowing the museum to feel both rooted in memory and distinctly contemporary.
