✨ Zola Jesus × Spaceship Ensemble ✨
We look back on an incredible opening night of Birds of Paradise with @zolajesus and @spaceshipensemble . Monumental sound, emotional intensity, and a breathtaking premiere of Flexural — Zola Jesus’ new work for soprano, strings and horn.
Together they created a powerful live experience where neoclassical, industrial and art pop met the rich textures of an adventurous ensemble.
Five more festival days to go — see you at Birds of Paradise🕊️

"Mecha-Cow" by Julian Maple-Oliveira🐄⚙️
The piece explores the meeting point between the organic and the mechanical, combining playful gestures, shifting textures, and machine-like rhythmic precision. Julian creates a hybrid sonic world where natural and artificial sounds blur, moving between humor, tension, and the unexpected.
A surreal and exciting soundscape to bring to life on stage. 🚀

"Cybernetic Resonances"
Our composer Dan Ehrlich aka @bigredwizard explores how the human body can be digitally expanded.
With harp, vibraphone, electric guitar and synthesizers, a rich sound is created in which acoustic sounds are distorted and processed with breath-controlled sampling and digital techniques. Listening, reacting, and reshaping each other in real time.

🐙“Futuristic Octopus” is part of our ongoing project “Robotics and Music" and was composed by @piyawat_lcw who composed the music and built the "octopus" himself out of plastic tubes and plastic bags taking us into an underwater world. In this project, we explore the intersection of human performers and robotic systems, searching for new textures, new gestures, and new forms of collective intelligence. Machines don´t replace musicians, they expand the ensemble, challenge us, and open unexpected sonic worlds. We’re deeply grateful to our supporters who make this experimentation possible:
@evs_musikstiftung , Reibert de Leeuw Foundation, @fondspodiumkunsten and of course @korzotheater and @dagindebranding festival for having us and making us part of your beautiful and lovely curated program! Thank you for believing in new music, new technology, and new futures. 🚀

Pictures from our last performance at the @korzotheater for the @dagindebranding festival.
We presented our last work “Cybernetic Resonances”, moving from drone electroacustic soundscapes to the newest sounds from our self-built instruments.
Many thanks to our audience, to @evs_musikstiftung , Reibert de Leeuw foundation and @fondspodiumkunsten for making the project possible, and to @woutervellekoop for the beautiful pictures!
Cybernetic resonances explores the interplay between robotics and music using self-built instruments, moving sound sculptures, and an octopus-shaped instrument which will be played from all of us! It was great to work with all the composers and explore the distinctive sounds of each piece, and we are very happy to present the show at @dagindebranding !
We will share the stage with Huba de Graaf on Saturday 21st of February at 16.00 at the Korzo Theater in Den Haag.
Hope to see you there!
Many thanks to @evs_musikstiftung , Reibert de Leeuw foundation, and @performingartsfund for helping us making this possible!
🎧Composer Huba de Graaff (video) offers a musical tribute to sound carriers from the pre-digital era, tape recorders and cassette decks, making her performances a true ode to audio media.
⭐️Spaceship Ensemble (photo) is a young, energetic ensemble presenting works that explore the interplay between robotics and music using custom-built instruments, hybrid instruments, and moving sound sculptures.

Our debut of the new project at @novembermusicnl felt like a milestone—an exploration of sound where electronics, acoustic instruments, and self-built creations met in one space.
Huge thanks to our sponsors @evs_musikstiftung , Reibert de Leeuw Foundation, and @performingartsfund for making this possible!
And of course many thanks to @novembermusicnl for inviting us, @jostijnligtvoetfotografie for the amazing pictures and all the composers that journeyed with us.
