For thousands of years, bear bile has been extracted for use in traditional medicine across Asia. To meet demand, Moon Bears were taken from the wild, caged, and farmed, subjected to painful extraction procedures for the entirety of their lives. Barely fed. Never cared for. Never treated as the extraordinary animals they are 🐻 South Korea has now banned bear bile farming. It's a landmark moment, but it's left over 200 Moon Bears across the country with nowhere to go. We travelled to South Korea to bring five of them home. They're now receiving the veterinary care they deserve, for the very first time. We have some exciting news to share next week so stay with us. Did you catch @jimmysfarm and Gemma Marriage, Head of Land and Native Conservation at Jimmys Farm and Wildlife Park, on BBC Look East last night? 🦋 They were chatting about our incredible British Swallowtail project, a collaboration between Space for the Wild, @jimmysfarmhq , @natures_safe , and @angliaruskin . Gemma spoke about one of the project's most vital elements, growing milk parsley, a vulnerable species and the sole larval foodplant of the British Swallowtail butterfly. In 2014, she founded the London-based PR agency Belle Public Relations, where she now leads the strategic growth and communications for some of the UK’s most respected talent, charity, and brand organisations. Her work as a campaigner has helped drive some of the UK’s most impactful animal welfare and advocacy milestones, including Lucy’s Law (2020), Rights On Flights (2023), the Pet Abduction Act (2024), and key contributions to the Animal Welfare Act in 2026 covering issues such as puppy smuggling and ear cropping. Speaking on her appointment as Space for the Wild Ambassador, Charlotte said: “I am immensely honoured to take on such an important role at SFTW, especially at a time when biodiversity is under increasing threat.
