April showers bring May flowers! We sure are thankful for the rain that brings us these blooms. This month we feature one of our favorite flowers! This stunning flower’s bloom is short lived so be sure to bask in its beauty while you can. Peonies come in every color (except blue), and some varieties can grow up to over 10 inches in diameter!

We visited Piedmont Park to see the bronze Dogwood statue gifted to the people of Atlanta from the Atlanta Dogwood Festival to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the festival. A visit to Piedmont Park is the perfect springtime activity, especially when you can relax in the shade provided by the stunning dogwood trees!

This month we pay tribute to the Cornus kousa, commonly known as the Kousa dogwood! A unique feature of the Kousa dogwood is that at maturity the branches grow horizontally, creating an intriguing visual perfect for any home landscape. We love seeing our beautiful city come to life when these trees show off their blooms. The “petals” that we see are not in fact petals. They are modified leaves called bracts that surround the small yellow-greenish flower. Keep an eye out for this showy tree as you get out and explore the city this spring!

Another perfect day in Atlanta gave us the opportunity to see some of the stunning blooms coming in at the Atlanta Botanical Garden!
Our tour of the garden was led by the cutest intern Southern Roots Studio has ever seen (Thanks G-Man!).
