So it’s a wrap on #LemonShortFilm and I am emotionally and physically drained.
The Writer/Director Tala Nahas and her Co-Producer Katja MacIntosh took a huge risk when they asked me to front this neo noir psychological drama (favourite genre) and I was elated but felt the worry of the world on my back. To be entrusted with a character around whom the entire story evolves, meant I had nobody else to hide behind: full exposure filled me with a tonne of self-doubt and dread I threw everything I possibly could at it whilst constantly hoping that it was enough. I hope my contribution pays off thereby making the risk these two ladies took, worth it, and the efforts of every other contributor uncompromised. Time will tell.
Along the way I met many incredible peopl : DoP Jamie Touche and our 1st & 2nd Assistant Camera wizzes Conor Hutton & Riccardo Garofalo (“can we get sharps on ‘Tutu’ Connor” is a phrase that will live inside my head rent free); my Co-Players, seasoned actors who taught me so much by being glorious and supportive, Anita Olatunji, Jamie Menendez and Marie Everett; the Gaffer Elena Nassati and her team of ‘Sparks’ - Nic, Rob and Ana-; Sound Recordist Javier Carles and his one-day cover Tom; Makeup Artist - the lady who painted me pretty everyday - Amy Luthwoid Graham and her Assistants Eva and Alesia; 1st Assistant Director Masha Egieva; Script Supervisor and the person to whom my headscarf gave a constant continuity headache Rosie Maskell; Driver-on camera vehicle Danny Stephens; Camera Trainee Manos Kalafatelis; Runner Spiros Doukas; and anybody else I may have failed to mention; good luck editing my mishaps Rushanè 😉. All of You ROCK; it was an honour, pleasure and education working with You All. Thank You 😘
I can’t wait to share the finished product with that bit of the world remotely interested in what “The Tutu” gets up to and, I personally can’t wait to see it myself in order to see whether I was sufficient or totally dreadful ( it’s a spectrum 😀). I’m not sure when it will get released and presumably start its round of film festivals (as shorts often do) but, as soon as I know I shall pass the information on.

Im still buzzing (ngl) from the @irisprize award from the weekend. Being the first film role that actually cast me at the centre of everything, I had to constantly battle my chronic ‘imposter syndrome’ through production and, hyper self-criticism in all the screenings during which I’ve obsessed over opportunities I felt I missed and left on the table. Producer ‘Katja MacIntosh’ and writer/director @tea.n.film have tried everything to snap me out of this self-criticism having seen things that my eyes were belligerent refusing to see. All I saw were things I would’ve done differently.
Well this decision-summary by the jury made me think maybe the Ladies were right after all and I should just shut up and stop complaining; I’ve read and reread it several times and can honestly say, it’s the best review of my life. It credited me for doing the very things I had been beating myself up for not doing at all or well enough. The irony. Yes, I will continue to seek developmental lessons when reviewing my work but, I won’t be so hard on myself and at least celebrate what may have been done well.
Katja had Tala, Thank You very much indeed; you been my rocks and guardian angels through this entire process. You’ve made it a dream. Thank You.

Stolen from Stephen Richards.
I’ve since heard that some pubs are closing tomorrow just to keep staff and customers safe.
