On this date in 1966, @thebeachboys - 'Pet Sounds' was released. 📈 #2 for 1966, #28 overall " Pet Sounds is special. From the two standout tracks (Wouldn’t It Be Nice and God Only Knows) to the bulk of bold, persuasive instrumental work throughout, Pet Sounds still maintains its magic. No matter the time or the reason for returning to it, there remains a rare cause for joy. Despite the tragedy behind how it was made, the mental health woes of Wilson and what he was using as the influences for some of the more acerbic choices, remain ambitious. An influential piece even now. Few are doing it quite like Wilson did here. ...The Beach Boys never looked back after this, even if they had their doubts. It led to finer moments on Surf’s Up, but Pet Sounds remains a rare catalyst so many musicians must, in one way or another, seek out themselves." - RYM user Ewano #rateyourmusic #sonemic #rym rateyourmusic.com/release/album/the-beach-boys/pet-sounds/

"Depending on the angle you look at Lip Critic, they're either DJs playing a hardcore set, or hardcore guys playing Skrillex covers. Theft World sees Lip Critic exaggerating all of these traits. As a followup to Hex Dealer, it's the same sort of approach a video game takes to a sequel: Everything's bigger and there's more of it too. The chaos is denser and more manic. The heavy parts are heavier and more hardcore, Talon being pretty much 'what if the half speed breakdown was the entire song'." - RYM user ChillingSpree @lipcritic - 'Theft World' #rateyourmusic #sonemic #rym rateyourmusic.com/release/album/lip-critic/theft-world/

On this date in 2020, @charli_xcx - 'How I'm Feeling Now' was released. 📈 #5 for 2020, #578 overall "She makes a more uniform pivot to the more abrasive, experimental elements seen in her past albums, fully displaying what those deconstructions on other works sound like when they are able to be fully fleshed out. She pairs this with lyrics that see her pouring out every fiber of her emotional being into a less than 40-minute runtime. She even implements the new age of hyperpop by teaming up with Dylan Brady of 100 gecs." - RYM user RobertM10524 #rateyourmusic #sonemic #rym rateyourmusic.com/release/album/charli-xcx/how-im-feeling-now/

'Tons of bands try to pull off this sound. But Friko is indeed on another level. The transcendent songwriting and lyricism, the raw and energetic performances, it all is so excellent. They don’t hide their influences, sure, but they certainly do channel the best things about the bands of the past that inspire their music. If this is what Friko can achieve this early into their career, I’m excited for where they’ll end up next." - RYM user lingsdook @friko4u - 'Something Worth Waiting For' #rateyourmusic #sonemic #rym rateyourmusic.com/release/album/friko/something-worth-waiting-for/

"Remains, the eponymous final song, is truly the best shoegaze can offer. Being initiated with a calmer tune, the wonderful sounds emitted by the guitar create a very easing atmosphere, once more being strengthened by the vocals, a true centerpiece of this whole album. Then, it suddenly changes into this wonderful, noisy symphony. A symbol of dread. Though not being supported by any vocals, the instrumentals are able to convey the emotions perfectly themselves, telling the tale of the end of everything so powerfully. The constant howling of the guitar and pounding of the drums are like the final breath of the world; a swan's song, agonizing, and painfully beautiful at the same time. Being suddenly cut off by the same melody from the beginning, it ends on a slightly happy note. All of a sudden, the sounds of rain, thunder, and bells tolling are the last things heard" - RYM user CQlover 東äșŹé…’搐ćș§ @tokyo_shoegazer_official - 'Remains' #rateyourmusic #sonemic #rym rateyourmusic.com/release/album/%E6%9D%B1%E4%BA%AC%E9%85%92%E5%90%90%E5%BA%A7/remains/

"Unlikely musical collaborations can sometimes be the most pleasant surprises, and in the case of Electronic supergroup “TOMORA,” two artists from two completely different worlds come together to create some enticing dance music. After appearing on various festival lineups, the identities of “TOMORA” were a mystery, until the group was officially announced in late 2025. The duo consists of Tom Rowlands of the iconic Electronic duo “The Chemical Brothers,” and Norwegian singer/songwriter Aurora Aksnes. Together the two have released their debut album “COME CLOSER,” and this album has some irresistible tracks. The melding of the duo’s differing styles works quite well. Tom Rowlands’ input is noticeable as he incorporates elements of Big Beat, Techno and Breakbeat, all genres often associated with “The Chemical Brothers,” and this is cleverly combined with AURORA’s brand of ethereal Art-Pop, which creates a cinematic and beautifully dramatic atmosphere as we the listeners dance our asses off." - RYM user beachy72vn @tomora - 'Come Closer' #rateyourmusic #sonemic #rym rateyourmusic.com/release/album/tomora/come-closer/

On this date in 1967, The @jimihendrix Experience - 'Are You Experienced' was released. 📈 #4 for 1967, #102 overall "The raw and layered production, psychedelic effects and guitar tones give Are You Experienced? its unique character. It sounds like you're hearing the band members' bodies disintegrate into an infinitely stretching spectrum of colours, surrounding you from all angles. If you were to tell me that there was an album that was capable of giving people synesthesia, and I mean inducing synesthesia in people who've otherwise never experienced it, I would assume it was this one. Sound, colour and feeling seem to blend into each other when I listen to this album. You can tell that the band wanted to blow people's minds with this album, to take them to some other plane, while still having it be primarily song-focused, and it's here where they were so god damn successful." - RYM user Pleonasal #rateyourmusic #sonemic #rym rateyourmusic.com/release/album/the-jimi-hendrix-experience/are-you-experienced/

"Matt Halpern from Periphery is on the drums as well and you can clearly hear his talent like always. Elliot's vocals here are beautiful yet again, "Square Breath" and "Decades on My Feet" both being such earworms with how he delivered in this sounds, just so powerful yet vulnerable. ...The album almost slows down and eases up as it progresses into almost like moody ambient prog at times...such a fresh take on their own sound that I still love it and feel it's very unique for how catchy and groovy they make the mood of the whole album." - RYM user 0Incarnadine0 @goodtigerofficial - 'The Most Negative Day of the Year' #rateyourmusic #sonemic #rym rateyourmusic.com/release/album/good-tiger/the-most-negative-day-of-the-year/

"The methods with which Arlo Parks manages to create a warm, inviting and soothing musical environment are ever-changing, but one thing manages to stay consistent throughout all of it, her ability to pull it off. Her latest effort sees her delve into the world of UK dance music, embracing gentle breakbeats, subtle garage inflections and the odd smattering of deep house, bringing these together to create an album that vibes effortlessly...perhaps the most level-headed take on partying I’ve ever heard." - RYM user Wasabi02 @arlo.parks - 'Ambiguous Desire' #rateyourmusic #sonemic #rym rateyourmusic.com/release/album/arlo-parks/ambiguous-desire/
