**LATENT SPACES Exhibition Announcement** LATENT SPACES_Step inside a computer model  A spatial sound installation by Vicky Clarke (SONAMB) Oct 23rd - 26th at SEESAW Space Basement Preview: Thurs 23rd Oct 6.30-9.30pm (see eventbrite ticket link in bio) Exhibition Open: Friday 24th - Sunday 26th October ABOUT THE EXHIBITION We're surrounded by invisible technological systems where machine learning and covert algorithms shape our everyday lives. At the heart of these systems is Latent Space, a data dimension in a state of flux, where material becomes data, past meets future, and new machine languages emerge. How do we imagine these hidden spaces? What do they sound like? Latent Spaces invites the audience to step inside the Aura Machine – an imaginary computational model combining spatial audio, sculpture, and digital objects.  Once inside the machine, audiences encounter a sonic composition of Manchester’s industrial past: mill machinery from Quarry Bank Mill, electricity, glass and metal, all processed through PRiSM SampleRNN, an early neural synthesis model now a historical relic. These sounds, layered with sculpture, drapes, and moving images, create a dialogue between computational and industrial spaces – both sites of flux, invention and memory. This work was made possible by Sound and Music's In Motion programme. In Motion 2024 is supported by Arts Council England, Jerwood Foundation, Garrick Club Charitable Trust, PRS Foundation & Marchus Trust. Sound and Music is a PRS Foundation Talent Development Network Partner supported by PPL UK.  With exhibition support from FutureEverything as part of the Innovate UK Cultural Accelerator programme Visit ‘Link In Bio’ for *event page and eventbrite tickets for the preview *more information about the project #SoundandMusic #InMotion2024 #FundedbyPRSF #soundart  #machinelearning #musiqueconcrete #concretemusic #digitalart #soundart #latentspace #electronicmusic #fieldrecording #musicproduction #musictechnology @soundandmusicuk @prsfoundation   @PPLUK @futureverything @jerwood_foundation @seesawspace @lol.editions

I am beyond honoured to have been selected on IN MOTION, Sound and Music's composer development programme, alongside 9 other talented UK artists ❤️ I'll be spending the next 18 months making new music and developing my craft with expert mentorship. The programme will also enable me to explore translating my concrete music and machine learning practice into a sound installation context, so expect experiments with tape machines, sculpture and 3D sound. It's my birthday today 🥳 , the first one without my Dad, he would have been very proud of my being thought of as a 'composer' (need to get used to the word!) Music means so much to me, it has got me through this last year, so this is a huge boost and motivation to keep on going as a sound artist. Can't wait to POWER UP Thank you @soundandmusicuk and congrats to all the other artists xoxo #SoundandMusic #InMotion2024 #FundedbyPRSF #soundart #noise #electronicmusic #newmusic @jerwoodfoundation @prsfoundation @aceagrams @theoramawards 📸 @anniefengphoto

Latent Spaces_Step inside a computer model A spatial sound installation by Vicky Clarke A film by Pedro Küster We are thrilled to share this wonderful film by Pedro Küster about Latent Spaces, Vicky Clarke’s (@sonamb__ ) spatial sound installation which took place in Manchester last October. How do you imagine computational space? The piece explored the hidden technological systems that surround us, inviting the audience to step inside an imaginary computational model the ‘Aura Machine’ . Once inside the machine, audiences encountered a sonic composition of Manchester’s industrial past: mill machinery from Quarry Bank Mill, electricity, glass and metal, all processed through PRiSM SampleRNN, an early neural synthesis model now a historical relic. These sounds, layered with sculpture, drapes, and moving images, created a dialogue between computational and industrial spaces – both sites of flux, invention and memory. Watch the full film on Vicky’s website via the link in our bio. Huge thanks to brilliant artist and filmmaker Pedro Küster for making this film, with such expertise and kindness. Please check out @pedroskuster and his work. This work was made possible by our In Motion programme. Heading to Amsterdam for Sonic Acts Biennial later this month, where our piece T1/2 Half Life (collaboration with Kamila Narysheva) will be shown as part of the ‘Between Fires: Irradiated Imaginations and anti-nuclear solidarities’ exhibition a Framer Framed gallery.  I’ve not been to Amsterdam since I did a residency with STEIM with Noise Orchestra way back in 2017, so am really excited to be in the city, and proud to be part of this brilliant programme and curatorial theme of ‘Melted for Love.’ Exhibition info: https://framerframed.nl/en/exposities/between-fires/ @milkteacentral @britisharts @kzbritish @framerframed @sonicacts #ConnectionsThroughCulture #soundinstallation #soundart

For 2026, i’m very happy to share that my collaboration with Kamila Narysheva on our project ‘T1/2 Half Life’ will continue, we are bringing the piece to Manchester for a new staging and public programme as ‘Residual Frequencies’, exploring Manchester’s nuclear legacy. Thank you to the British Council Connections through Culture for supporting this work. *Text from Kazakhstan British Council @kzbritish   🔊 What do sound, the Cold War and nuclear testing have in common? ‘T1/2: Residual Frequencies’, a collaboration between Manchester-based sound artist Vicky Clarke @sonamb__ and Almaty curator and researcher Kamila Narysheva @milkteacentral that we are proud to support as part of our #ConnectionsThroughCulture 2025 grants! The project probes the acoustic memory of the Semipalatinsk Test Site, where the Soviet Union conducted over 450 nuclear tests, and aims to create an immersive installation in a Cold War–era nuclear shelter in Manchester, pairing field recordings and sound, drawing sonic and historical connections between Kazakhstan’s radioactive legacy and the UK’s participation in nuclear testing. It is a site-specific iteration of sound installation T1/2, first presented in Almaty, Kazakhstan. STRANDS_My final project of the year, I had the pleasure to collaborate with Florence from Venture Arts on her installation piece ‘Strands’ for Light Night Wigan. Florence is a textile artist who creates beautifully detailed applique houses. I created the sound design for the piece, using recordings of Florence's artistic process, using very quiet sounds such as drawing, snipping and stitching. My favourite sound in the piece is the sound of her breath. When I recorded her stitching she was concentrating really hard and breathing in and out in time with the sewing. It’s really calming and shows how connected she is to her embroidery.  The other more musical sounds are all played by Florence using bells, mini tongue drum and synthesizers, in fact every single sound you hear in the piece was made by Florence herself.  Venture Arts do such amazing work, it was a joy to work with the whole team there. Thank you to Things That Go On Things for asking me to be involved, and congrats on another brilliantly curated festival, and well done to Florence on a beautiful installation piece. @thingsthatgoonthings @venturearts_ #LightNightWigan #Strands #VentureArts #InclusiveCreativity #TextileArt #SoundArt #LightArt #DisabilityArts #NeurodivergentArtists #Collaboration #CreativeCommunities #ArtForAll #GMCA
