Latent Spaces_Step inside a computer model
A spatial sound installation by Vicky Clarke
A film by Pedro Küster
We are thrilled to share this wonderful film by Pedro Küster about Latent Spaces, Vicky Clarke’s (
@sonamb__ ) spatial sound installation which took place in Manchester last October.
How do you imagine computational space?
The piece explored the hidden technological systems that surround us, inviting the audience to step inside an imaginary computational model the ‘Aura Machine’ .
Once inside the machine, audiences encountered a sonic composition of Manchester’s industrial past: mill machinery from Quarry Bank Mill, electricity, glass and metal, all processed through PRiSM SampleRNN, an early neural synthesis model now a historical relic. These sounds, layered with sculpture, drapes, and moving images, created a dialogue between computational and industrial spaces – both sites of flux, invention and memory.
