Great to be back in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and connecting with the dynamic artists and creatives in this vibrant city, one of the nodes in our @globalportcities project. My 240-day streak on Duolingo Vietnamese made a few inroads (Tôi đang cố gắng học tiếng Việt!) but better was being in town to witness the opening of a great new show at @galeriequynh , the opening of the new @raresea.vn art space, see @uudam_tran_nguyen ’s new work, plus check in with port cities partners @linnhlee and @superhumanbill , plus other dear friends not pictured here. And eat so well!

Hoàng Vũ is also an experimental ambient music producer. With sound as his primary focus, his practice centers on atmosphere and phenomena, within liminal space, states of waiting, and shifting boundaries. Alongside his compositional work, he develops research-based projects engaging ecological soundscapes and site-specific phenomena shaped by urbanization and ongoing environmental instability that continuously reshape the landscape. “the forest lives on as unfinished film reels” is a group exhibition of Aliansyah Caniago, Xuân-Hạ, Rab, and Hoàng Vũ. ▶️Opening Reception: 18:00 – 20:00, Friday, March 27, 2026 ▶️Time: March 28 – May 31, 2026 ▶️Opening hours: 10:00 – 18:00, Tuesday – Sunday, or by appointment ▶️Location: Rare Sea – 3 Dang Thi Nhu, Ben Thanh Ward 🚪Free admission 🛵 Parking: You can park at the TNXP parking lot located at 4 Trương Định, Bến Thành Ward (900 m; 2 minutes by walking).

(Tiếng Việt dưới phần bình luận) Rare Sea is pleased to introduce “the forest lives on as unfinished film reels”, a group exhibition with the participation of four artists Aliansyah Caniago, Xuân-Hạ, Rab and Hoàng Vũ. Featuring multi-medium artworks, spanning sculpture, silk painting, installation, and moving image, the exhibition explores the lingering existence of materials and spirits as interlocutors on urbanism, production, and labor of modern society. Urban space and industrialization often drape themselves in fantastical promises of a stable and prosperous future, where labor is a one-way ticket to happiness. What has been pushed aside in the name of progress? Do they carry any momentum of memories and histories? And should we listen, observe, touch, smell and feel them? In “the forest lives on as unfinished film reels”, what remains invisible within the intimate and collective spaces of urbanism and production is exaggerated, saturated and glorified: fauna ghosts, noises, mythical creatures, repetitive gestures. From these vestiges, both human and non-human, the exhibition excavates what has been erased and what haunts us, reflecting perspectives on labor, dwelling, and the residual consequences of industrial society. We warmly invite you to join us in the opening reception on Friday, March 27, at 6:00 PM. EXHIBITION DETAILS: ▶️ Time: March 28 – May 30, 2026 ▶️ Opening hours: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Tuesday – Sunday, or by appointment ▶️ Venue: Rare Sea – 3 Đặng Thị Nhu, Bến Thành Ward, HCMC ▶️ Free admission ▶️ Contact: [email protected] ▶️ Telephone: +84 904 497 769 🛵 Parking: At present, there is no on-site parking available. However, you can park at the TNXP parking lot located at 4 Trương Định, Bến Thành Ward (900 m). 📎 Learn more about the exhibition and the artists via the link on our bio 🖌️ Design by @motcaixacbunhin_

For the opening party of our fourth season, we decided to focus on the city that has been our second home since 2022. The 30th edition of Nurture x Liminal Dreams will feature a lineup of Saigonese-based DJs and live acts. First, and we are happy to have her back, is BongBongQuayQuay. Much has been written about her, and rightly so. She is a long-time OBS resident, has performed at the region’s smaller and bigger venues, and is a DJ with a musical palette broader than Itten’s color palette. Expect a set along the brighter notes. Our second artist, Mic Mac, whom we equally welcome for the second time, moves more in the darker shades of the musical orbit. Originally from Paris, he has been around the Saigon music scene for over a decade. This time, we will have him for a live jam set with lots of machinery and improvisations, embarking on Jason Pollockish’s musical journey. Our third act is Something Maker. Originally from the Mekong Delta, Hoàng Vũ is now based in Saigon and is the co-organizer of Tắm Đêm_nightswim. As a multidisciplinary artist working across sound, poetry, and visual arts, it is nearly impossible to define Hoàng along any color wheel. His musical production, however, floats between the more natural colors, often incorporating elements of Mother Nature’s surroundings: air and water, the organic and the non-organic, field recordings, and odd experiments, morphing into an ever-changing fluctuation of musical colors.
Finally, your favorite hosts are there. Probably colorful and floating along the entire range of musical colors.

NHƯ BÓNG NÀO MÀ CHẲNG NỔI TRÊN NƯỚC ✦ By Vũ Hoàng (@something.maker ) ✦ ISSUE 02 Highlight: 6 of 16 “I know, your man— your almost half-masculine self, you carry. How can you love him, when he refuses to love you back?” “What Balloon Does Not Float on Water” is a poem inspired by the Vietnamese word bóng, which carries multiple meanings and can be interpreted in various ways: a balloon, a shadow, glossy, and queer. Since 2025, Vietnam has officially banned a once-popular recreation connected to this word and commonly found in nightlife settings. This poem evokes the sensations associated with its fleeting euphoria and the atmospheric scenes of club spaces where it was once prevalent. what we find episode sixteen now live until 11 am featuring @something.maker - Based in Saigon (HCMC), Vũ is a multidisciplinary artist working across sound, poetry, visual arts. His sound focuses on the atmospheric, an ecosystem between the speakers. Insect-like tendencies, air and water, organic and non-organic blur together. He co-organizes Tắm Đêm_nightswim, a fluid platform for sound, poetry, and performance. His poetry and photography appeared in Noone Magazine issue 2 (Netherlands), and he has exhibited in group shows across Vietnam. For this edition, he has prepared an unreleased hour of music. A series of slow morning movements, sonic sketches of environmental sounds and soft melodies, as fragile as insect wings. Somethingmaker’s music has made regular features on past what we find shows, so it’s a pleasure to now welcome him onto the series to share an hour of unreleased music recorded in early 2025. -- Resurrection, writing poetry as a way to live lives twice, or many times. Receiving an image, a situation, live it once, then live in again through writing. On the boat, we resurrected a poem once lived and died. Amidst sporadic words that remained on the wetted papers, our participants fill in the blank and make new poems. A conversation happened across time and space, and new lives emerged. There's something innocent in the act of responding to something you don't know, like a child filling gaps of what they're still looking, and trying to understand the world, themselves. Happy children's day! --- 1. phóng:sinh thơ về sông Sài Gòn // release life into Saigon river 2. cuộc trò chuyện thơ chọn lọc từ những bài thơ được hồi sinh // selected edits from the resurrected poems on the boat 3. những bài thơ bị ướt // water-damaged poems from 'an exercise in feeling negative space' (Tắm Đêm x Nguyen Art Foundation)
