Portland, it's been too long. I'm overdue for a visit, and this time I'm bringing art with me! I can't wait to share my new series, "Way of the Sun," with you this week at @neverlab downtown ☀️ In these paintings, I honor the sun and the role she plays in the universe and our psyche. This series is not only a meditation on the mysteries of the sun, but an invitation to ask how we wield the light in ourselves. Your inner goddess is there to remind you that you are one with the earth, planets, meteors, and the stars 💫that the universe is so expansive, it's beyond our comprehension. Sometimes, she guides you to a truth buried so deep, you forgot you knew it in the first place. My inner goddess was painted during January and February this year. Astrologically, I'm ruled by Mars, so I wanted the color red incorporated to reflect this. I painted her third eye in the shape of a star to represent her connection to the heavens and her ancestors. I'd never painted a goddess before, and in many ways painting her felt like writing entries into my diary and became a part of my daily ritual. Witnessing her come to life, I felt connected to her--and painting her became a devoted practice that helped me reignite my inner light. She helped me break free from all expectations, and release my fear of making mistakes. She reminded me that art is a form of exploration, and I'm forever grateful to her ⭐️ Interested in a commission of your inner goddess? My family moved from Seattle to West Virginia in the summer of 1999. As part of the move, my dad and I drove our family's volvo from Manzanita to Charles Town, while my mom flew with my siblings and our cats. The road trip took about 7 days, and it was the farthest I'd ever been from the ocean. Somewhere in the plains, we pulled over on the side of the highway where there was wheat growing. We picked and ate some grain. A familiar feeling washed over me, and I was reminded of the ocean again: the same vastness and mystery we were leaving behind, was found in the field before us.
