MIMESIS:
From the Greek mimeisthai:
To imitate, to become.
This body of 70 works on paper begins through a fragile act of translation: images are lifted, transferred, and reconstituted through the slow leaking of ink. Each transfer is imprinted, a ghost of an image carried over, and finished with oil paint. Its clarity surrendered to the process.
The work moves within the ancient and psychological territory of mimesis, imitation not as replication but as disguise, transformation, and a form of becoming.
Across these works, found and taken images, archival war photographs, masked figures, film characters, and fragments of fractured memory are subject to repeated acts of mimicry. What emerges are not reproductions but residues: the blurred remains of things once witnessed, now reabsorbed into the paper’s porous surface.
This practice unfolds under what the artist calls Memory Camouflage: how memory hides itself in plain sight, how history survives through disguise.
On view till the 12th of December, Lagos, Nigeria @windsor.gallery
