Let’s talk about #AMVCA…
There’s something about arthouse films that true creatives and lovers of art will often choose them over mainstream movies.
Mainstream movies win at the cinemas, while arthouse films win at the Oscar. Those who understand the craft know why.
Sensationalism draws the crowd; genuine artistic expression earns the festivals and major awards.
Back when winners were largely decided by popular vote at the AMVCA, many low-quality/brain-draining productions and poor performances took home awards. But now, it appears that the organizers are very intentional about fixing that.
What still feels off is the “viewers’ choice” label. The name doesn’t reflect the new reality…and probably should be dropped.
Maybe it’s time to rebrand the AMVCA or end it.

As the final episode of #AMEtiti (Season 1) airs tonight, I find myself feeling deeply nostalgic about the entire production journey.
Producing one of the great Naija epic series of this decade has been an incredibly fulfilling experience. I was privileged to have worked some of Nigeria’s finest creatives to bring Etiti to life. It wasn’t an easy ride. We faced serious constraints during filming and countless challenges from pre-pro to post-pro. But we pushed through and delivered against all odds.
The cast and crew truly worked magic. They cooked something special, and the result is nothing short of a masterpiece. The reviews have been immensely gratifying, and honestly, this is just the beginning - I can’t wait to do more of this.
