@b_d_f_c We had event during BLACK August on Black Land focused on probably the Blackest Fruit on earth. Our goal was to reconnect BLACK people to the land physical and spirituality never to make a profit. We accomplished our goal and it was a beautiful experience. Looking forward to what is next!!

This Saturday, November 15 from 10 am - 2 pm we continue the time honored tradition at our fall open house: seed saving! This year a special guest, Xavier Brown @soilful city will bring a cotton gin to extract seeds from the Arkansas Green Lint that we grew for @southernexposureseedexchange . We will also shell dry beans “Kebarika” for @ujamaafarms collective. And of course, popping garlic cloves like always!

Learning from @aboubakarfofana about 13 shades of blue with indigo Vat. I’m experimenting with resists to give each shirts its own unique design .
I’m particularly drawn to Haint Blue, rooted in Gullah culture Via West Africa( Mali, Nigeria , Ghana, Senegal and Cameroon.
We still have a lot indigo to harvest . We will host a community coming soon.
Next up: DC Flag and Black Power Fist designs.
Working on posting more regularly and sharing what we have been doing with Natural Dyes(indigo and Fiber cotton)
We have 4 small Vats going right now 3 out 4 are using home grown indigo from @hustlaz2harvesters@hustlazoffthegrid . Stay tuned for more updates.

New Book Alert
Excited to share Young Voices of the Anacostia River: Exploring Black Roots to the Eastern Shore and Back is a new book of essays, poems, reports and photos featuring 15 Anacostia High School seniors who spent the summer of 2024 exploring Black contributions to the environment in the DC region, all the way to the Eastern Shore.
Had the honor of meeting @aboubakarfofana from 🇲🇱 Mali West Africa he is a Master Indigo dyer, artist Textile designer ,calligrapher and teacher and wise elder. Im still processing our conversation always a. Blessing to connect and learn from elders. Much gratitude and appreciation to Kenya @blue.lightjunction for making the connection.
