𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒌 by Louise Benton Soho Revue is thrilled to present a devotional stage to the medieval interpretation of the affliction of being ‘Lovesick’, created by artist Louise Benton. Visitors are invited to move through this stained glass heavenscape as both audience and pilgrim. Within this immersive environment, stained glass cherubs and fragmented parts of the human body that echo relics, evoke medieval devotional objects, courtly romance and the ecstatic writings of Christian mystics. Each sculptural fragment represents a part of the body afflicted by lovesickness, drawing on the medieval understanding of desire as both a spiritual and a medical condition. From butterflies in the stomach, to feeling breathless, this installation unfolds in seven vignettes within the larger heavenscape. Visitors enter the set and encounter seven reliquaries rendered in stained glass, each corresponding to a specific bodily site of longing. A behind the scenes montage of Lovesick (on the rare occasions I remembered to capture some footages!) Sculpture and printmaking are the lynchpins of my practice, and this show is very much about the two in dialogue. Installation in its nature is spacial and how we move and respond to work within it, and I’ve been reflecting a lot on how important the studios and spaces were to the process of making this body of work. My studio is currently in a gorgeous church near Regents Park with @florencetrust and it felt like a really special place for this show to come together, amid the stained glass and pews. The Florence Trust very kindly let me expand the operation to their new site in Islington when it came to the set building stage and I needed more space, which was an absolute godsend. Working with James again in the @sohorevue print room was as always, a delight, which coincided with sunny days and a real feeling of Spring beginning. You can see all these places in the video and the different ways of working each inspired. Lovesick is open until 31st July at Soho Revue, 14 Greek Street, W1D 4DP

At @sohorevue , Eleanor May Watson's “There is No Time Like Spring” turns the season into a lens for stillness and presence. The works move between silence and aliveness, holding open questions about time, voice, and what it means to be fully here. The interest in colour and light, forming what the artist refers to as ‘emotional landscapes’, persists while the subjects change. The new works incorporate people, they enter the painted worlds naturally, often perched on the margin of the expansive landscapes, as if stopping by.
