Since 1992, Life Time has evolved from a gym into a way of life, championing all aspects of health through its 175+ Athletic Country Clubs. Despite its profound impact, Life Time was yet to fully realise its vision. Our challenge was clear: honour its legacy, amplify its voice, shape the future. We restored the meaning of ‘Life’ and ‘Time’ by creating a revitalised brand, inspiring people to make the most of their movement through time.

We believe in the power of active wellbeing trips to help our employees recharge and connect with nature.
We’ve recently returned from an incredible adventure in the Scottish highlands where some of our SOCIO and SOCIOTYPE teams unplugged from screens to explore the stunning Glen Coe area. Trekking 90km and summiting three peaks over three days and conquering the mighty pap 🏔️

For flames old and new. @aather.studio
Hand made and exquisitely packaged, with fragrances devised by perfumers in London and Grasse, Aather’s candles are of exceptional quality. Working closely with their founder, we sought to establish a new niche within the static category of home fragrance, and to create a position befitting of their remarkable product.

New work for @aather.studio
A flicker, a foundation, a family. Eschewing the convention of a fragranced candle as an accompaniment to moments of quiet solitude, we imagined Aather’s fine fragranced candles setting the scene for a gathering. Not just those big occasions or celebrations, but the small, everyday experiences that build our shared stories.

Our brand for @aather.studio
A new design classic. Aather’s brand world is steeped in the heritage of twentieth-century design. From the mid-century influences that informed the distinctive silhouette of their hand-blown glassware, to a system of brand shapes that borrows from the uncompromising geometry of brutalist architecture. We created language, photography and film to breath life into the six moods of their inaugural range of twelve candles. Our layered, design-focused identity positions Aather in the lineage of their iconic influences, as a new design classic for the home.

Messages keep the world moving. Sent across medical theatres, in birthday cards, from whispered secrets to WhatsApp exchanges; making ourselves understood lies at the heart of human existence. But what happens when messages are misconstrued or worse, are intended to wound?
In Issue 1 of Sociotype Journal, we explore the tangled meanings of gestures, from the simple thumbs up to outdated sign language and what happens when they offend. While the language of gesture might seem universal, signalling is a lot less stable than we might imagine.
This piece is accompanied by gestures created by illustrator @hatty.staniforth
Sociotype Journal Issue 1 was created, edited and designed by Socio for our sister company @sociotype.foundry and features one of our first commercially released typeface, Gestura. The journal is available to purchase directly from socio-type.com or from one of our stockists internationally.
Socio-type.com is now live 🎉
It’s almost five years since the plans for Sociotype began to take shape. We’ve put in many long days and late nights since then, and have received help from many people along the way. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this happen. We couldn’t have done it without you. 🙏🏼
Visit the site now to preorder Issue #1 of Sociotype Journal, and to download trial versions of our first two releases: Gestura and Rework, serif and sans serif superfamilies, with seven optical sizes and 90 styles between them. Website development by @hambly_freeman
Sociotype Journal is a new platform for thoughts on culture and society, that also happens to be a type specimen. Each issue we invite some interesting people to help us explore a single theme, inspired by (and typeset in) a particular type family from Sociotype.
When words fail, our hands do the talking. Preorder Issue #1 “The Gesture” now.
