Alongside a nomination at Raindance film festival, Skin of Water | پوست آب was selected out of 7,500 short film submission as a semi-finalist at Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival 2024✨🦋
Skin of Water | پوست آب was nominated for Best UK Short at BAFTA/BIFA qualifying Raindance Film Festival out of 4000+ submissions ✨don’t mind my resting sad face, I’m genuinely grateful to have taken part, met the festival organisers and have this as the milestone to my 🏆 a long list of thanks is in order to cast + crew but I just wanted to take a moment to shout out the investors for trusting me with the vision, it’s not always easy convincing people to go against the grain 🦋 @ridleyscottcg / @soup.film / @ali.arkitus / @coffeetvstudio
So grateful to everyone who attended my sold out event ‘Homeland’ in January showcasing Iranian musicians, a variety of female artists, alongside the screening of my latest short film, Skin of Water | پوست آب. My best friend, the love of my life and collaborator, @steven.zeddi.parks beautifully hosted the night with me and conducted the Q&A✨With the sale of tickets, the ‘Homeland’ book, and prints we raised just over £1100 for two amazing Iranian children charities 💙 thank you to @everymancinema and @magneticfield.tv for sponsoring this event - Digital 📸 by @sohaila.ashanti
Upon returning to Iran after 21 years, I found myself being able to write poems in Farsi for the first time; something I wasn't aware I was capable of. Within this journey, a part of my identity which I'd buried slowly over the years was reawakened. I wanted to create something tangible from my experiences and I was lucky enough to collaborate with @masoudmorgan once more to design a photography and poetry book. After many discussions and absorbing my poetry, Masoud proposed this beautiful design and animation, drawing inspiration from our conversations:
“The word ‘Vatan’ (Homeland’) in Persian was shaped here by floating particles. You said “it was a whirlwind”; this Homeland is between two situations and can be interpreted differently: is the homeland breaking and being destroyed? Or are the lost and broken pieces finding each other again, gathering and forming? Each person depending on their experience and feelings can see and understand it differently.”
I was soon inspired to push this notion of tangibility even further and at the same time wanting to give back to my homeland. I've been organising an event with the wonderful support of @magneticfield.tv planned for 31st January at @everymancinema . This will be a night showcasing Iranian musicians, artists, latest short film, Skin of Water | پوست آب. and a chance to buy my book and prints to raise money for two amazing charities helping children in Iran @golestanfoundation and @poplikcf . We’ve practically sold out 145 seats and I can’t wait to see you all in less than 2 weeks 💙💫
