SMB Windows is proud to announce the successful completion of the Leave Plus Facade Refurbishment Project — a complex 7-storey retrofit that transformed a 30+ year-old building into a modern, high-performance façade.
The project involved the complete replacement of the outdated single-glazed channel glazing system with a new front-glazed structurally glazed façade system, delivering the sleek appearance of a curtain wall while retaining the existing structure.
Key project highlights included:
✔ Front-glazed structurally glazed façade from Ground Floor to Level 6
✔ Gallery-style façade at Level 7 with expansive city views
✔ Automatic sliding entry door systems for seamless accessibility
✔ Automatic hinged and sliding doors to balcony areas
✔ Breezway automatic double-glazed louvres at Level 5 for natural ventilation
✔ High-performance EnergyTech Grey double-glazed units for enhanced thermal and solar performance
This project presented significant technical challenges, including the installation of over 300 oversized glass panels, each weighing over 200kg, without crane access, scaffolding, or external access equipment due to the busy Albert Street location.
Through innovative engineering, an overhead pulley system and abseiling installation methods were utilised to safely complete the glazing works while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.

From a glazing perspective, the project showcases the perfect balance between architectural design and high-performance systems. Large-format windows and doors maximise natural light while creating a strong indoor-outdoor connection.
A standout element is the use of inline reveal framing, delivering minimal internal sightlines and a clean, contemporary finish. Paired with high-performance double-glazed LowE glass, the system enhances thermal efficiency, comfort, and sustainability.
