Casting notice for UK trans women! I've been working on this passion project with my friends & mentors @wbharp , Joan Rater, and @tvphelan for years, and we are now looking to cast a young trans actor for one of the lead roles. This is an incredible part, one I hope to help make a future star. I've long been obsessed with how trans people would have moved through the world before we had language for such identity, particularly during my favorite historical era, Tudor England, and this series will put such a journey front and center, with all the sophistication, dignity, struggle, love, and fun, that only writers who know, understand, and cherish trans people can. Writer and actress Jen Richards (@smartassjen ) was never one for protests, but as Los Angeles came under attack from I.C.E. agents, she felt compelled to march along with thousands of others in June. She had never thought of her body as a tool of resistance until that day, when from about ten feet away, an LAPD officer shot Richards’ left foot.
“Whatever it was, it tore through the leather of my Dr. Martens, through the extra thick boot sock, and pierced the skin,” Richards writes.
At the link in bio, @smartassjen recounts the day she was shot by an LAPD projectile, and what it taught her about the power of community and protests.
Downtown LA was an endless march of thousands and thousands of protestors with signs and horns and whistles and all the cars were honking in support and everyone was chanting & cheering. I was at a bus stop and the march was as long as I could see in either direction and went steadily for the 20 minutes I was there. I've never seen so many people so united by a common cause. It was good and beautiful and true, and one of hundreds around LA, SoCal, all 50 states, and around the world. America does not want a king, does not want Trump, does not want the lies and cruelty of MAGA turning us against each other. Today was undeniable proof of it, and I hope a genuine turning point for this country I genuinely love. #nokings
