SPF’s first monthly Paper Jam is here ✨ Join us this Thursday, April 2 from 1–5pm This is an open studio session but spaces are limited! Come hang, make, and use our papermaking studio. You can even book our paper beater for the session! Only 2 days between you and the smell of ink and gentle thumping and whirring of presses! Thanks to a grant from @miamidadearts and @fundarte.us we were able to bring the Riso Whisperer Robert Baxter to Miami to help get our GR3770, Dulce, ready for Miami’s Riso printing needs! If you don’t know what Riso printing is, check out some of the greats like @risolve @zachclarkis @taxonomypress and @secret_riso_club to get a feel for what’s possible! SPF Exhibitors are the core of the fair. To put it simply: we do it for them so they can do it for you! For our 2 day fair, Zine dune tables cost $20 and Beach Front tables cost $100. These rates make it possible for an incredibly diverse group of artists to participate. Folks at all different points of their lives, careers, and artistic journeys. Public arts funding, sponsorships, and donations are what makes this price point possible. Without it, Zine Dunes would need to be close to $150 and Beach Front would need to be over $650 per table to make the fair happen 💸 During Give Miami Day, your donation counts for more! For every donation of $25 or more SPF will receive an additional $25 from the Miami Foundation’s Million Dollar Match! There are also lots of other prizes and bonuses that will be announced throughout the event. What’s our favorite thing about @smallpressfair ? Making prints of course! IS Projects had been the supplier of most of the printing presses, printing supplies, print preparation, and staff support for SPF Fair throughout the years 💅 Now that Small Press Fair and IS Projects (Miami Paper & Printing Museum) have joined forces, we can’t wait to bring the presses to SPF’26! But we need your help. Public arts funding has been cut drastically over the last 5 years and SPF rolled with the punches and used our meager savings to keep bringing the fair to you. We had to cancel SPF’25 because after our state grant was cut, there was nothing left to make the fair happen. It’s Give Miami Day’s early giving period now and tomorrow is the big day! Your donation of $25 goes farther with Give Miami Day’s million dollar match program (an extra $25 for every donation of $25 or more up to $1000) and other bonuses that are awarded from Miami Foundation! This sucks. And it’s taken a bit to sink in for us… there will be no SPF’25 💔 We believe in the value of printmaking, book arts, and zine creation. We wholeheartedly believe artists should be paid and that their time and work is meaningful. We have worked tirelessly to keep our budget as lean as possible to ensure lowest feasible fees for exhibitors and to keep the fair free and open to the public since 2016. But the reality is that 40% of our funding comes from the State of Florida’s Cultural Division, and when that funding gets eliminated by our governor and legislature (for 3 out of the last 5 years), small arts non-profits like ours suffer the most. This year would have been our 10th fair, and you know we want to do it right. We’re going to take the year to regroup and find an alternative path forward for the fair. The hardest part of cancelling the fair this year is knowing that our exhibitors will lose that chance to share their work, meet new fans, and make their practice more sustainable.
