David Bryne for the New Yorker by David LaChapelle. I was so fortunate to be the art director for this shoot - David Bryne has been a huge inspiration to me in all aspects of my creative life. A friend introduced me to ‘stop making sense’ in high school - it became daily required listening for me. It’s also the only music I have ever been able to dance to - David LaChapelle, from our very first conversation regarding the shoot had each shot in his mind, and I did my best to illustrate those concepts on paper and then pull them from page and into our 3 dimensional realm in less than a week. Cardboard boxes, hot glue and a 1980’s New York taxi cab - not a drop of Ai

Boxing event poster 4 tonight’s Canelo fight I worked on for @david_lachapelle - an honor and a pleasure. The ever talented and insanely kind human @213annie_sperling art directing - this step by step guide to mountain making is an ode to me using so much toxic shit for fabrication. It’s important to @213annie_sperling to use natural materials as much as possible and limit the amount of toxic shit we put into the world - and I think that’s a damn fine idea and from that project on I’m trying to play with less garbage !

Owl and worm puppet commissions made for the L.A. Public Library in the summer of 2023. It was the first project @smallcalvillo and I took at our workshop at 1948 Riverside dr, an address of significance to us given its association with Palestine and the Nakba. Countless days and nights were spent working in this special place, which had one window looking down on another studio, no air-conditioning and no heating. It shared a wall with a comedy theater, so we got to enjoy the laughter of their audiences as we faced off against the seasons: sewing, sculpting, and dreaming, discussing life, its many gifts and challenges. A place like that will get you loving the sun, air, and your fellow man. It’s always a blessing to be busy in good company.

Today’s lesson - creation through alteration : a chopped thigh-high denim base with a thinly sliced & pinned nascar t-shirt topped sparingly with bleached broccoli curls tucked beneath a faux, faded, fishing cap served in black leather bouncing souls, sans socks ( not pictured )

Ebinsail during it’s first and final storm. “Seeds die - as every farmer, gardener, and seedsman knows. Some succumb to the moisture, heat and molds before harvest; some are mortally injured during handling and threshing; some expire in the seedbed in the process of germination; and some just fade away with aging during storage. While the dying of seeds is a matter of great concern to the farmer or seedsman, the point of interest to most laymen and the media is not that seeds die, but that they live so long, or put another way, their seeming immortality rather than their mortality - which is, of course, not at all surprising.” - from THE MORTAL SEED by James C. Delouchel

This photo taken by my friend and co- worker, Jamin this March (2023). One warm, spring evening just after work at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater, he caught me with my hands full and dirty faced. Jamin is a gifted puppeteer, musician, craftsman and above all else one of the loveliest, and true blue humans this side of the Milky Way - one of those that truly sees you no matter how well you try and burry it away. He and @ceylonnn are leaving Los Angeles for new landscapes. They will be greatly missed by all who are fortunate enough to know them. Goodbye for now friends, until our paths twist and bend and are joined once more.
