All Things Must Pass — With 14 runs of our monthly vinyl open deck under our belt, the next will be our last. If you’re in and around the scene, you’ve known for a long time that Selectors, and
@smallbarstp as a whole, were temporary situations. As Sector and the crew behind smallbar have been inching closer to landing in our permanent spaces over the last 2 years, we wanted to carve out a new way for music to thrive in the area and hopefully set pace for what congregating around music could look like in the new spaces. Together through Selectors we’ve cultivated a proper each-one-teach-one zone, and a feverish enthusiasm around sharing your music collection with your peers.
Most of the signups at Selectors were not DJs. They were the folks you see working the bar at your favorite coffee shop, or serving at your favorite restaurant, or sharing the dancefloor with you at The Bends, watching an “actual” DJ spin. The signup sheet broke down any chance of hierarchy or snobbery; this was a space to share, listen, and learn—the only thing you had to worry about was getting there early enough to grab a slot!
Out of this educational zone, we’ve gained 12+ new Sector Residents with regular shows, plus many more Guest Mixes, and a ton of folks telling us they’ve purchased 2nd turntables to try their hand at DJing, whether at home or at a proper gig. We can’t thank y’all enough for showing out every month for over a year, and we can’t wait to hear what all of our Selectors Alumni have in store for the Gulf Coast’s musical future.

Sector continues to broadcast Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays, live and direct from the Gulf Coast. We’ve got much more to share with you all soon, because the Learning isn’t done yet!
