Slice is pleased to present ๐˜‹๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ, a mixed-media exhibition by UK and Berlin based artists, Oliver Lunn and Rory Biddulph. Vernissage: ๐“๐ก๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ”.๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ’.๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‘, ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ–-๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ก๐ซ Studio 16, UferstraรŸe 23, 13357 Berlin We look forward to seeing you there! โœจโœจ The title of the exhibition reflects on the importance of โ€˜processโ€™ in their practice, with works moving through countless changes before they reach their final stateโ€“ a state that may continue to grow as parts are often repurposed, replicated, or echoed through new bodies of work. Expanding on traditional ideas of collage and assemblage, Lunn and Biddulph take a divergent approach to the way we categorise images and materials, stripping back standard hierarchies and privileging new contexts in which they can exist. This juxtaposition of seemingly unrelated elements creates a sense of cognitive dissonance that invites us to consider the subjective nature of where we place value in the material world. Oliver Lunn works with a muted colour palette, concentrating on small details and sensitive marks that leave traces of meaning layered throughout. There is a building up and an excavation that occurs throughout the making, with the most hidden or erased elements becoming just as important as what is brought the surface. Whilst both artists work from a place of introspection, Rory Biddulph takes a less quiet approach to his use of colour and materials. Adopting anarchic ideas inherent in assemblage, he plays with historical contexts and systems of worth that are placed onto artworks and objects. Through the exaggeration and disruption of elements he creates tensions that push us to explore how we label that which is serious, comical or absurd. @moonloops101 @rorybiddulph @uferstudios_tanz_berlin #assemblage #collage #berlinpainting #uferstudios

Slice are excited to introduce our second artist Rory Biddulph, who will be exhibiting in ๐˜ฟ๐™ช๐™ง๐™˜๐™, opening this ๐—ง๐—ต๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐˜† ๐Ÿฒ๐˜๐—ต ๐—”๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—น, ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿด๐—ต๐—ฟ at @uferstudios_tanz_berlin โœจโœจ Referencing eccentric historical customs, Rory Biddulph's practice emphasises allegory and storytelling. His eclectic use of material reflects the wandering narrative of his research. His new body of work explores the relationship between tragedy and comedy, focusing on traditions and folk figures. Rory Biddulph (b.1986 UK) lives and works in Berlin. He gained his BA from Newcastle University (2006-2010) and his MA from The Slade School of Fine Art (2013-2015). Exhibition highlights include the Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait Prize 2021 (shortlisted), the John Moores Painting Prize (long-listed/exhibitor), The Clifford Chance Purchase Prize (2016 - shortlisted), the XL Catlin Art Prize (2016 - shortlisted), Fracture, Lewisham Art House (with @katiejhubbell ), and All Have Noses, Fat Relic (with @Rhysthomasartist ). Between 2020-2022 Biddulph founded and co-ran Slice, a curatorial initiative providing artists and curators with the opportunity to exhibit in Berlin. 2023 #berlinpainter #berlinsculpture #uferstudiosberlin

We are excited to introduce Oliver Lunn, the first of our two artists exhibiting in ๐˜ฟ๐™ช๐™ง๐™˜๐™, opening this ๐—ง๐—ต๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐˜† ๐Ÿฒ๐˜๐—ต ๐—”๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—น, ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿด๐—ต๐—ฟ at @uferstudios_tanz_berlin โœจโœจ Lunn makes mixed media abstract works that are made up of layers of paper, both found and prepared. He uses these layers as a way of presenting traces of a past, visual ghosts and echoes. He is interested in creating a spatial experience for a viewer, luring them in with secrets hiding in the margins of his work. He prefers to engage people by whispering as opposed to shouting, and as a result his works typically employ a muted colour palette. The most important thing to him are the small details and sensitive marks that live within whatโ€™s often a simple composition. He invites the viewer to lean in, take a closer look, and enjoy these details that might be overlooked on first glance. In most of his work there is a tension between order and disorder, between hard lines and torn material, between chance and intent. There is an overarching theme of loss and decay, that the works could be perceived as being in a stage of breaking down, as opposed to a fixed state. Oliver Lunn is a British-born artist who lives and works in London. In 2009, he completed a BA in Fine Art at Bath Spa University. Lunn has exhibited in London, Sweden, and Germany, and in 2020 had two mixed media works acquired by the Kanyer Art Collection - an international collage collection dedicated to collagists from 1980 to present. @moonloops101 Image (1-3): Knob Twiddling Poses 2022, Classic Feedback Outro 2022, Girl 2022 #uferstudiosberlin #collage #berlinpainting #contemporarycollagemagazine

The final exhibiting artist that we're excited to introduce for our upcoming exhibition ๐˜›๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ฃ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜›๐˜ช๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ, is Natalia Janula. We look forward to seeing you all on 29th July! โœจโœจ Janulaโ€™s work is interested in urban and natural environments and the slippage between the two. This is mirrored by her choice of synthetic and organic materials, from jesmonite to silicone and latex, to 3D printed sandstone, found objects and kinetic motors. Her practice involves developing and containing โ€˜ecosystemsโ€™ through assemblage, ikebana and digital rendering. A repeated theme within Janulaโ€™s work is the femme body and rituals relating to it, in an increasingly synthetic world. She looks at โ€˜wearablesโ€™, both functional and decorative, and how this attachment to a human form creates an intangible symbiosis. Janulaโ€™s work can elicit a variety of responses. She exploits the microscopic, creating miniatures that tap into our involuntary โ€˜cute sensorsโ€™ as well as using materials that can often appear alien and repulsive. The motion of her kinetics indicate a character beyond that of a machine; one of a protagonist. A network of these sculptures embody numerous tensions; between general and specific, sanitised and earthy, fragile and sturdy. In her recent work, there are references to fictional landscapes which are reminiscent of science fiction, folklore and the ethereal. Janula entertains speculative narratives, chronicling a future scavengerโ€™s travels to forage distant treasure troves, improvising shrines with the materials that they uncover. Janulaโ€™s use of volcanic sands, shells and molluscs indicate Earthโ€™s natural forces of tidal systems: the burying and unearthing of materials in a cyclical regurgitation. Natalia Janula has exhibited in the UK, USA, Canada and Europe including at Union Gallery, New Art Projects, Chalton Gallery, Final Hot Desert, Collective Ending HQ, TBA Academy Embassy, Subsidiary Projects and Xxjira Hii. She has also exhibited as part of residencies at Jupiter Woods and Camden Art Centre. @nataliajanula / Text: @georgialaurenstephenson Image (1-3): Island of Delights, 2022, Delight '3, 2022, Delight '2, 2022

Our next exhibiting artist to introduce as part of ๐˜›๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ฃ๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜›๐˜ช๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ is Robert Prideaux โœจโœจ Robert Prideaux works with performance, text, images, facts, stories, and animal habitats. Using various combinations of these โ€œmediaโ€, he explores ideas surrounding time, fluctuating landscapes, and human experience. Appearing at first glance to be playful and light-hearted Prideaux's works take a turn, confronting the viewer with hard truths about human greed, their impact on the environment, and the Western exploitation of the global south. @robertprideaux Image (1-3): Bow Creek Epic Poem, (performance), 2013- 2020, Bow Creek, 2013- 2020, Cruise Ship Waterslide, 2021
