OPEN CALL: BETWEEN BRIDGES RESIDENCY
Between Bridges is pleased to announce the open call for the next residency. The residency will take place from January to June 2027 and includes a working phase as well as a one-month exhibition or public presentation.
The ninth recipient of the residency will follow previous artists Yalda Afsah, Didem Pekün, Lucy Beech, Harry Hachmeister, Wisrah C. V. da R. Celestino, Kristian Vistrup Madsen, caner teker, and the publishing collective Viscose.

Between Bridges is pleased to announce an exhibition of work by the late Jochen Klein (1967 – 1997), opening 30 April, 2026 to coincide with Berlin Gallery Weekend. The exhibition is the first solo presentation of Klein’s work in Berlin, bringing together paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and collaborative pieces spanning the breadth of his career, from his earliest student work in Munich to the final paintings made in London in the last months of his life.

Izabella Scott presents “The Bed Trick” (Atlantic Books, 2026) and speaks to artist Alexander Tovborg about Dante’s “The Divine Comedy”. Kristian Vistrup Madsen gives a lecture on the cinema of Catherine Breillat.
Within the frame of “The Heart is a Pump” – an exhibition project that takes its name after a poem by Bob Flanagan. It evolves across three parts with attending film screenings and conversations, exploring the motifs of pain, repetition and submission in Christian iconography and beyond.

Between Bridges invites you to a special concert by Mohammad Reza Mortazavi, known for his virtuosic approach to the tombak and daf, on 12 April at 8:00 PM at Between Bridges’ Adalbertstraße location.
Mortazavi’s music bridges classical Persian rhythms with a personal, contemporary language, creating immersive and meditative sonic landscapes.
The evening is conceived as a space for gathering, resonance, reflection, and connection across distances, in alignment with the spirit of Between Bridges’s program, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary.
The concert is based on free donation. We suggest a donation of €15 or more, payable at the door. We kindly ask you to make a reservation at [email protected]. Please note that each reservation is valid for one person only. Due to limited capacity, please inform us in advance if you are unable to attend, so that your place can be offered to someone else.
If you do not have a reservation, you are welcome to come and listen to the audio transmission in another space in the building.

The Heart is a Pump is an exhibition project that takes its name after a poem by Bob Flanagan. It evolves across three parts with attending film screenings and conversations, exploring the motifs of pain, repetition and submission in Christian iconography and beyond.
The Heart is a Pump will unfold in consecutive chapters until the end of June. Open by appointment.
Kristian Vistrup Madsen is a writer and curator based in Berlin. In 2025, he curated Mood Curriculum, a series of events and podcasts at Simian in Copenhagen that sought to define the notion of Stimmung as essential to artistic and curatorial practice.

Welcome Kristian Vistrup Madsen, Between Bridges’ first resident of 2026.
Kristian Vistrup Madsen is a writer and curator based in Berlin. His writing on art has been published by leading art publications and institutions internationally. In 2025, he curated Mood Curriculum, a series of podcasts and events at Simian in Copenhagen following his essay in Kunstkritikk „Mood over Content”, considering a less alienated, more alive turn for contemporary art. At Between Bridges, he will develop an exhibition and public programme around the interrelations of pain, Christian iconography and sexual subcultures. The exhibition will feature work by Rochelle Goldberg and Alexander Tovborg.
