200 SQUARE METERS OF WALL! TWO ARTISTS! EIGHT LONG DAYS! AND NEARLY 200 TINS OF PAINT! IS THIS THE LARGEST MURAL IN CORNWALL!? I'm really excited to share with you the making of the first mural for #MUQY (A walking tour of murals around #newquay) This absolute beast was designed and painted by the fantastic Penzance based artist @kleiner_shames and assisted by yours truly. Head down to the wonderful @mixnqy on East street and see for yourself! We worked with a brilliant couple of groups over at @youthartconnect to come up with some ideas to form the basis for this #newquay themed abstract mural. And a few weeks later we were up the scissor lift making it happen! The project was originally devised by @slapdashstudio And #newquaybid and the murals have been organised and produced by #slapdashstudio MUQY is funded by #experiencenewquay which is funded by Good Growth/ UK Governments Shared Prosperity Fund. Finally getting round to sharing the mural I designed before Christmas down in beautiful Newquay, Cornwall!  Installed by myself, @slapdashstudio , @irvine.gray @kleiner_shames @koeone_  - thank you so much to you all, absolute angels! The weather was pretty brutal to us, with rain really trying to get us down. But we got it done and I can't thank Jack enough for bringing me on board for this project and organising everything on top of painting too. We were approached by Experience Bodmin and @cornwallcouncil to design and paint this wildlife based mural on the side of Stillmoore House in the town of Bodmin Cornwall. There’s a new mural in town… 👀 and the weather was certainly a force to be reckoned with whilst creating this work of art! Talented illustrator @laurenmorsley has designed and painted the newest mural in Newquay, on the side of one of Luxon Group’s buildings on the corner of Fore Street and Tower Road. A nod to the vibrancy of Newquay, Lauren’s artwork definitely brightens up a previously dark wall, and is number 10 in the walking mural trail across our town! Thrilled to see that my project MUQY has been featured in the Guardian's 'Best outdoor art trails in the UK this autumn', with the image of @ellespaint Fisherman mural that we produced and helped create. This murals become a bit of an iconic landmark in Newquay so it's great to see it, and the mural trail itself getting even more recognition in the national press! Seems like a good time to announce that we're going to be adding three further murals to our trail of six in the coming months, making a total of 9 fantastic large scale murals by the end of this year! #muqy #newquaybid #murals #cornishmurals

Here are some final shots of the mural I recently completed at Newquay Train Station on behalf of @slapdashstudio It was an absolute pleasure to have @jacktierneyart assist me on this project, painting in one of my favourite places in the UK. Working alongside someone on large scale jobs always makes the process more enjoyable. The brief was to create a design that celebrates Newquay’s identity and its long standing connection with the Great Western Railway (GWR). I also wanted to nod to the town’s rich fishing industry, and as the surf capital of the UK, I drew inspiration from vintage surf graphics you’d find in old magazines and ads. This mural forms part of MUQY, an ambitious project bringing a trail of large scale murals to Newquay. The design celebrates Newquay’s unique identity and its long-standing connection with the Great Western Railway (GWR) 🚂🌊 I’ve always loved the look and feel of 80s surf graphics, so this was the perfect opportunity to blend that style with my own visual language of bold geometric shapes and abstract aesthetics, with little hits of realism. This mural is part of MUQY, a wider project creating a trail of world-class murals across Newquay. 'Welcome to Newquay'. We were asked to brighten up this battle ship grey shipping container that has been converted into public loos by the train station. It's the first thing you see when you get off the train, so the first impression wasn't the best. We saw to that with this bright, fun mural across the face and sides of the container. It wasn't easy on those bumpy corrugated surfaces but we did a tidy job in the end! With Boardmasters about to start I thought I'd share with you the latest Slapdash Studio produced mural, designed and painted by the massively talented @chris_dorning in collaboration with the fantastic team @boardmasters who funded this project through the Boardmasters Foundation. The theme of this mural was the iconic Cribbar wave in Newquay, and with Chris being a keen surfer as well as artist, he was the perfect fit for the project. The mural depicts the wave being carried inside a giant fish tank carried by surfers, representing the fragility of our seas, and a commentary on our need to look after them. Was a blast painting this one with him, and a big thanks to Boardmasters for backing our vision and helping us bring it to life! This mural forms part of the #MUQY walking mural trail, a Slapdash Studio project to bring public art to Newquay town centre.

The third edition to Slapdash Studios walking mural project in Newquay town centre 'MUQY' was painted by the one and only @45rpmwhat As with all the murals we started things off by working with a local community group. In this case it was the local girl guides, and they came up with some Greta ideas around what Newquay represented to them. 45rpm then worked his magic and came up with this really fun design. It was a pleasure to work on this one (even in the depths of November along a wind tunnel by the sea!) and it's gone down a storm with the locals. We even had a class for the local school come down to interview us which was brilliant! This mural was part of the @benewquay_festival , funded by #experiencenewquay and maintained by #newquaybid

The sun is shining and Newquay town is buzzing! We loved helping @hixxy bring her vision to life earlier this year, ready for another big summer. The mural is painted on a building which sits on the main road down to Towan beach, one of the busiest beaches in town. Nestled between the rolling beach balls which symbolise the influx of tourism in the summer months, life in the town is depicted with dog walkers, life guards, kids playing on the beach, a waitress pushing a ball out the way to serve beers and a traffic warden doing what traffic wardens do! The wall received such positive feedback, and it looks absolutely spectacular in the summer sun! Another great addition to the MUQY mural trail!
